Hi there! We are The Lutheran Church of Australia (LCA), a relatively small Christian denomination in Australia and New Zealand with about 30,000 regular worshippers. The worldwide Lutheran Church, with around 80 million adherents, is the second largest non-Catholic church (and the largest Protestant church) in the world.
Lutherans have been in Australia and New Zealand for more than 150 years. Australian and New Zealand Lutheranism in the 21st century reflects the multicultural nature of our two nations. We are a culturally rich and colourful church, and our tagline; "where love comes to life", reflects the heart and soul of the Lutheran Church mission.
We now have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Payroll Officer to join our head office in North Adelaide.
Your Next Opportunity
As our Payroll Officer, you will be part of our supportive and motivated HR team of six, including another payroll officer working alongside you, and reporting to the HR Manager.
Working 0.8 FTE, you will have the flexibility to work 4 full days or work 3 full days and split your hours across the rest of the week.
As a national church, our structure is different to other organisations. We have several districts around the nation with multiple congregations within these districts. Each of our churches functions as a separate entity with its own governance, finances and payroll needs.
You will be responsible for end-to-end payroll, including onboarding and termination payments, super and ATO contributions and reporting, and financial and payroll reporting through Preceda.
Duties and responsibilities include, as one of two payroll officers:
- End-to-end fortnightly payroll processing with Preceda for over 700 staff across more than 400 entities;
- Onboarding and offboarding staff;
- Ensuring accurate claims, leave recording and timesheet processing from the Church districts and congregations;
- Monthly, quarterly and annual payroll reconciliations;
- Making superannuation payments and uploading ATO reports;
- Working with the finance team to move funds from individual entities into the master payroll account for payroll; and
- Payroll reporting through Preceda.
Benefits on Offer
When you join our organisation, you will be part of our Mission, and you will earn an attractive salary circa $72,000 plus super and great benefits.
Benefits include:
- Access to our social club and varied regular activities
- Weekly team morning teas and devotions
- Support for professional development
- Free onsite carpark
About You
As our new Payroll Officer, you will be experienced in end-to-end payroll, and have a strong working knowledge of payroll legislation and regulations. You will be methodical and have strong attention to detail with the ability to work through any challenges or complications that may arise.
Great collaboration and communication skills will be necessary to effectively work with your fellow payroll officer, other team members and the wider organisation. A team player, you’ll work with our districts and congregations (including their employers, pastors, and employees) to help them better understand payroll processes and procedures, focusing on accuracy and timely provision of information. Providing your excellent customer service to these internal entities will be crucial to your success in this role.
Experience in working with multiple entities and award types is highly regarded. Experience with Preceda or Ceridian systems is preferred.
Most importantly, you’ll be passionate about people being paid accurately and on time and be excited to work for an organisation that is part of something larger.
