About Us:

The Central Land Council (CLC) is a corporate entity created by the Aboriginal Land Right (Northern Territory) Act, with an elected 90-member Aboriginal Council. It has effectively fulfilled its statutory functions through representing, protecting and advocating for Aboriginal people's rights and interests over 45 years.

We now have an exciting opportunity available for a Minerals and Energy Officer to join the Council and play a vital role in supporting Aboriginal people who have exploration and mining interests on their land.

Your Next Adventure:

As our next Minerals and Energy Officer, you will have the exciting opportunity to assist traditional Aboriginal owners in making informed decisions about development projects in the CLC region.

By representing and advocating for the interests of Indigenous communities, you'll uphold the mandates of the Aboriginal Land Rights Act and the Native Title Act, fostering sustainable and mutually beneficial relationships while acting as a bridge between communities.

You’ll also have the opportunity to attend remote meetings out in the community, allowing you to explore parts of Australia that most will never get to experience!

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assessing proposals for mineral, oil, and gas exploration and production impacting Aboriginal people in line with relevant legislation and agreements
  • Planning and facilitating remote meetings, consulting effectively with traditional Aboriginal owners to ensure informed decision-making about exploration and mining proposals
  • Facilitating liaison meetings between mining companies and traditional Aboriginal owners, supporting transparency and participation of traditional owners in the governance of developments on their land
  • Ensuring mining companies' compliance with environmental, cultural, social and financial terms and conditions of minerals and energy agreements
  • Developing relationships and liaising constructively with traditional Aboriginal owners, companies and government agencies
