About Us:

The Central Land Council (CLC) is a Commonwealth corporate entity created by the Aboriginal Land Right (Northern Territory) Act 1976.  Our council is governed by 90 elected members from remote communities, homelands and town camps across the southern half of the NT. It has a proud 50-year history of speaking truth to power, representing, protecting, and advocating for, Aboriginal people's rights and interests. 

We now have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated senior communications and media officer to join our team and deliver innovative communications strategies.

Your Next Adventure:

You will be at the forefront of shaping and delivering impactful messages that drive positive change for the CLC and the communities we proudly serve.
Reporting to the communications manager, you will support the co-ordination and management of all aspects of the communications team. You will communicate effectively with our constituents and external stakeholders and promote the views and achievements of the council and our people.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • supporting communications team members to perform their work and managing contractors and consultants
  • helping to develop and implement communications strategies to promote our work and increase public awareness of the issues facing Aboriginal people in Central Australia
  • nurturing and maintaining strong media relationships, and providing high-level advice on media opportunities and issues management

What You'll Bring to the Team:

To be considered for this position, you’ll need tertiary qualifications in journalism, public relations, communications, marketing or a related discipline, as well as prior demonstrated experience in similar roles. 

To thrive in this position, you’ll have highly developed technical skills that allow you to communicate with diverse and multi-lingual audiences in a way that cuts through. Your strong story-telling skills in a range of media, open mind and curiosity will equip you to explore and convey the unique experiences, cultures, challenges and achievements of the Aboriginal communities we work with. Your strong interpersonal skills, empathy and genuine commitment to the values of CLC will also be critical to your continued success within our organisation.

Additional requirements include: 

  • Current valid driver's license, with the ability to drive long distances in a 4WD vehicle and camp out in the bush
  • Ability to obtain an Ochre Card (working with children check) from SafeNT and satisfactory national police clearance

In addition to a competitive salary of circa $103,408 - $111,662 p.a. + 14% superannuation, you will receive a range of generous benefits, such as

  • annual airfare and district allowance to help you offset living and travel expenses ($1,300 airfare allowance per annum + up to $6,400 district allowance per annum if moving with dependants, or $3,490 if relocating alone)

  • subsidised accommodation for the first four months (if relocating)
  • five weeks of annual leave PLUS an additional week of leave over Christmas/New Year
