About the Opportunity

DCLS now has an exciting and rewarding role for a full-time Disability Advocate to join their team in Darwin, NT.

Reporting to the Senior Advocates your main responsibility will be to make a lasting impact on the lives of individuals with disabilities.

Some of your core duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Providing personalised advocacy assistance to individuals with disabilities and their representatives, including promoting self-advocacy;
  • Guiding clients through understanding their rights and opportunities within the NDIS;
  • Identifying opportunities to educate the community about the NDIS, including providing training to external stakeholders;
  • Identifying and reporting systemic issues to the SDRS Team Leader, advocating law reform options to better achieve objectives;
  • Building external stakeholder relationships with community groups, client organisations, and others;
  • Maintaining accurate records in line with laws and regulations.

We have outreach programs to remote NT communities, and you can have the opportunity to be a part of this as a Disability Advocate if it aligns with your passion.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have strong work experience in community services, working with people with disabilities and managing cases as a social worker, case worker, disbility advocate, or similar.

No qualifications are required for this role, though a diploma in community services or similar is preferred. At DCLS we value Culture, Passion, and Work Ethic above all else. We are seeking a self-motivated, committed team member, passionate about making a long-term difference in disability advocacy.

Bonus points if you have worked with the NDIS, and lived experience of disability is also an advantage in this role.

You must be passionate about people's rights, and loud and outspoken about changing legislation. You will join, sharing our passion and culture and we will provide all necessary support and training.

As our Disability Advocate, you will receive an attractive salary in line with SCHADS Award level 5, starting at $93,000 plus super, based on skills and experience, and great benefits!
