About the Organisation

The Central Land Council (CLC) is a corporate entity created by the Aboriginal Land Right (Northern Territory) Act, with an elected 90-member Aboriginal Council. It has effectively fulfilled its statutory functions through representing, protecting and advocating for Aboriginal people's rights and interests for over 45 years.

About the Opportunity

The CLC is seeking a full-time Geospatial Services Team Leader based in Alice Springs, NT. Reporting directly to the Computer Services Manager, this crucial role involves leading the Geospatial Services team of three individuals to provide essential GIS services and support across Central Australia.

Working Collaboratively with the SECTION staff, your key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and managing the Geospatial Services team
  • Managing map production and developing maps
  • Create and manage spatial data
  • Developing and implementing GIS strategies and projects
  • Ensuring the maintenance and enhancement of GIS data quality and systems
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to support land management and conservation efforts
  • Providing GIS support and spatial data advice to staff and community members
  • Occasional participation in fieldwork to collect and verify spatial data
  • Overarching reponsibility for project data and maps

About You

Although a tertiary qualification in Geographical Information Systems (GIS), science, or ecology is an advantage, we highly value substantial experience in GIS, focusing on its design, function, and application. The ideal candidate will also hold one to two years supervisory experience, and must hold a valid Australian driver's licence.

We value the following skills and background:

  • Proficiency in Esri ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Pro
  • Understanding of SQL Server and Python scripting
  • Ability to design or maintain relational databases and/or ESRI Geodatabases
  • Experience with large-format plotters for map and imagery printing
  • Knowledge of spatial data formats and software platforms

Essential soft skills include a passion for geospatial technologies, effective teamwork, and a drive to affect Aboriginal communities in the Northern Territory positively. Furthermore, your experience or knowledge working with Aboriginal communities would be highly regarded.
