How You’ll Make a Difference

Sunrise is now looking for multiple full-time Mental Health Professionals based in Katherine, Northern Territory. Travel to outreach clinics and remote communities will be a regular part of this position. 

This role, reporting to the Integrated Health Manager, revolves around providing expert mental health care, promoting social and emotional well-being, and coordinating care with the broader Primary Health Care team to ensure the best outcomes for clients.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing information and education on mental health and well-being
  • Conducting mental health screening and referring at-risk patients
  • Following up at-risk patients and those discharged from specialised services
  • Delivering Mental Health Prevention and Care Services
  • Demonstrating professional practice and clinical leadership
  • Assisting in case management coordination for clients needing Mental Health Care
  • Leading the integrated delivery of mental health services
  • Implementing evidence-based standards and policies

What You’ll Bring to the Team

To qualify, you will need a Bachelor of Nursing/Psychology/Occupational Therapy or Social Work and a post-graduate qualification in Mental Health. Previous experience in the mental health field is considered essential. 

As our ideal candidate, you will possess strong personal values that align with the Sunrise Way, understanding of cultural competency and cultural safety when working with Indigenous people and multicultural societies. You will also be able to maintain confidentiality and privacy, be willing to undertake mandatory and further training relevant to the role, and have the physical ability and willingness to undertake the inherent requirements of the position.

This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a dedicated professional who is prepared to work in remote areas and make a significant impact on the health outcomes of Indigenous communities. We are looking for someone who is committed, open-minded, honest, efficient, respectful, and passionate about education and health advocacy.

Please note: A current open Driver's License is a requirement for this position. Confirmation of employment is dependent on the outcome of a Criminal History Check and successful application for an Ochre Card.

About the Big Rivers Region

The Big Rivers region (a 3 hour drive from Darwin) begins south of Kakadu National Park encompassing Pine Creek, then extends over 500km south to Kalkaringi and stretches across the width of the Territory between the Western Australia and Queensland borders. The region is significant in scale, covering over 360,000 square kilometres and accounting for an area greater than that covered by Germany. The region consists of a number of varied natural environments including vast rivers, tropical forests, rocky escarpments and savannah plains.
