Our Mission:

Cairns Regional Domestic Violence Service Inc. (CRDVS) aims to use its specialist knowledge and skills to prevent domestic and family violence in the community and empower those affected by it.

CRDVS's vision is "Making a difference – bringing domestic and family violence to an end". We seek to do this by providing a confidential, comprehensive, and client-centred quality service to all vulnerable clients free of charge. CRDVS at all times strives to uphold high levels of professionalism and accountability.

We now have a rewarding opportunity available for a Domestic Violence Worker to join our team from our Mareeba office on a 12-month Maternity Leave Contract on a full-time basis.

How You'll Make a Difference:

As our next Domestic Violence Worker, you will have the rewarding opportunity to provide crisis intervention to clients accessing support for family and domestic violence. This will be through conducting intake, assessment, crisis counselling, and assisting with Domestic Violence Order applications. Your work will ensure that victim-survivors of family violence are able to receive timely and safety-enhancing services.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing intake, assessment, information, referral, crisis counselling, medium to long-term DV counselling, and assistance with protection order applications to victims of family violence
  • Maintaining and further developing links, cooperation, and networks with other organisations to provide effective services and improve coordination of service responses
  • Developing and maintaining professional and client resources for use in the organisation
  • Assisting in enhancing greater community awareness of family violence and its impacts on women and children by participating in community education as required by the Senior Practitioner or the CEO of CRDVS

What You'll Bring to the Team:

To qualify, you will need a degree in psychology, social work, community welfare, or a related social science qualification. Experience in a role directly dealing with crisis intervention or domestic violence services will also be highly regarded but not essential. If you are currently working towards a relevant degree, significant experience in crisis intervention or domestic violence services will be required for you to be successful.

Your ability to apply an intersectional lens to your practice and your understanding of the gendered nature of violence will be critical to your continued success at our service. Highly developed communication skills that allow you to engage with a diverse range of victim-survivors and external stakeholders will also ensure relevant information is being dispersed in an appropriate manner.

Additional requirements include:

  • Proven ability to work both within a team and independently
  • Demonstrated computer literacy skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, or the ability to acquire knowledge of, legislation impacting on situations of domestic and family violence
  • Class C Driving Licence

Please Note: All applicants must hold (or obtain) a current C Class driver's licence, a Working With Children Card and a formal police criminal history check.

Be Rewarded:

In addition to a competitive Level 4 SCHADS salary of circa $82,000 - $88,277 p.a. + superannuation, the successful candidate will enjoy a range of additional generous benefits at CRDVS, including:

  • NFP salary packaging to increase your take-home pay by up to $15,9000 p.a.
  • Opportunity to join an organisation with a low staff turnover, indicative of not just how personally rewarding our work is, but also the high level of support that we enjoy
