About the Organization
Selwyn Resources Ltd is a publicly traded, Canadian base metals exploration and development company. The company's core project is the World class Selwyn Project, located in eastern Yukon. The Selwyn Project has reactivated the Howard's Pass zinc-lead district, and since 2005 the company has invested approximately $145M to define Selwyn deposits as one of the largest undeveloped zinc-lead deposit in the world.
In June 01, 2011, Selwyn completed the acquisition of ScoZinc Limited, and acquired all of the assets associated with the ScoZinc zinc-lead mine located in Nova Scotia. The acquisition and restart of ScoZinc is a major strategic step in the evolution of Selwyn into a mid-tier producing base metal mining company. About the Opportunity
Selwyn Resources Ltd is seeking an experienced, driven Chief Mining Engineer, to play a pivotal role in the growth of their Nova Scotia operations.
Based out of the ScoZinc Mine in Cooks Brook, Nova Scotia, you will be responsible for managing, coordinating and controlling engineering functions to support optimal planning and extraction of the mine reserve.
Specifically, this will involve:
- Supervising mine planning, property evaluations, design of environmental controls into the mining operation, capital and project engineering services;
- Analyzing, reports and making recommendations on mine operating performance, ways to improve performance, promoting operating/capital costs reductions, reducing waste and operational delays;
- Reviewing production methods, mine design, materials handling, manpower requirements, cost analysis, etc.;
- Overseeing the development and maintenance of long and short term mine plans, mine plan designs, geological services in accordance with overall company objectives;
- Developing budgets for the areas under supervision and ensuring they are adhered to; and
- Overseeing large capital projects and directing outside consultants/ contractors.
The successful candidate will possess:
- A degree in Mining Engineering (BSc, MSc, B.Eng) or relevant engineering field
- 10+ years engineering experience including mine planning, ore body development, and related engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience in a leadership capacity with at least 2 years supervisory experience, preferrably in an operations environment
- Knowledge of ore body modeling systems and mine planning are essential
In addition you will be an excellent project manager, with strong communication (verbal and written) and time management skills. It is important you are proficient with Windows, Microsoft Outlook and across the suite of other MS and web-based applications.
It is important to note that in this role you will play a part in moving Selwyn Resources Ltd from an exploration company to a production company. As such you will be developing your own new processes and can break off the shackles of more restrictive working environments!
