Your role

Macfarlane Generators is seeking a Field Service Department Manager to lead our Clayton South, VIC team.

Reporting to the Branch Manager and working closely with the National Field Service Manager, you will oversee all field service operations, ensuring efficiency, quality service delivery, and compliance with company policies.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Leading and coordinating the Field Service team to ensure seamless daily operations
  • Managing job scheduling, service reports, and preparing quotes and cost sheets
  • Diagnosing and fault-finding issues in power generation equipment, ensuring timely resolutions
  • Communicating with customers, providing expert advice, and ensuring high service standards
  • Overseeing quoting, pricing, costing, and standardising procedures for field service jobs
  • Managing on-site service, repairs, and maintenance of small to medium-sized power generation equipment
  • Coordinating multi-state service and maintenance for national customers
  • Ensuring compliance with OH&S and environmental regulations at all work sites
  • Managing warranty claims and liaising with manufacturers such as Cummins, Promac, Powerlink etc; etc
  • Maintaining accurate service records, customer databases, and reporting systems
  • Conducting regular toolbox meetings to reinforce company policies and service standards
  • Identifying new business opportunities to grow the Field Service Department

What You’ll Bring to the Role

To qualify, you will need a trade background in electrical or diesel mechanics with experience in power generation service. A current driver’s licence is also essential, as this role requires regular job travel.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Experience with Cummins, Deep Sea and Comap Control Systems
  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to manage, mentor, and coordinate a team
  • Strong technical skills and hands-on knowledge of power generation equipment
  • Ability to diagnose and fault-find issues in power generation systems
  • Computer literacy, ensuring accurate paperwork, reports, and service records

As our ideal candidate, you will have strong communication skills, confidently engaging with customers both over the phone and in person. Your mature, knowledgeable, and professional approach will be supported by a solid mechanical and/or electrical background. You will be a problem-solver who thinks on your feet and applies common sense to achieve effective outcomes. Flexibility and adaptability will be key as you manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment. A customer-focused mindset will drive you to maintain high service standards and build strong client relationships.
