Make Your Mark in the Kimberley
The Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley is looking for a full-time Senior Planning Officer to join our team in Kununurra, Western Australia.
Reporting to the Manager Planning and Regulatory Services, you'll be a key player in delivering high-quality planning services, ensuring compliance with legislation, and shaping the future of land use in the Shire.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Assessing and reporting on development applications, including major projects
- Providing expert planning advice to internal and external stakeholders
- Preparing recommendations and reports for Council and other stakeholders
- Administering the Shire’s Local Planning Scheme and planning policies
- Assisting with strategic planning projects, including scheme amendments and structure plans
- Engaging with the community and stakeholders to ensure meaningful input into planning strategies
- Supporting process improvements within the Planning and Regulatory Services team
- Some travel to Wyndham (approximately an hour away) may be required

Is This You?
To be successful, you'll need a Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning (or similar) and a National Police Clearance (dated within the last 6 months). At least 3 years’ experience in a similar role with strong knowledge of both strategic and statutory planning is also essential. A current unrestricted WA Driver Licence is required.
We would also love to see:
- Experience in local government planning processes
- Knowledge of planning concepts like residential, retail, and commercial developments
- Ability to interpret and apply legislation, policies, and guidelines
- Strong research, analytical, and report-writing skills
- Excellent communication and customer service skills to liaise with stakeholders
- Membership (or eligibility) with the Planning Institute of Australia
