About the Opportunity

The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder is seeking a full-time Coordinator Waste Management to join our Engineering Services team based in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, WA.

Reporting to the Manager of Waste, Water, and Sustainability, this role is responsible for leading the operations of the Waste Services business unit, including the management of waste collection, recycling, and landfill services.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing the Yarri Road Refuse Facility and ensuring compliance with all licence and regulatory requirements.
  • Managing the City's waste collection services, including kerbside refuse and recycling collection.
  • Developing and implementing policies to enhance resource recovery and waste management practices.
  • Supervising and mentoring the Waste Services team to ensure high-performance standards.
  • Coordinating compliance and regulatory reporting, including licencing, audits, and safety measures.
  • Collaborating with other departments to align waste management initiatives with organisational priorities.
  • Assisting with the delivery of environmental sustainability projects in collaboration with the Manager of Waste, Water, and Sustainability.

About You

We are seeking a motivated professional with a strong background in waste or environmental management. You will be an effective leader with vision and the ability to deliver innovative solutions to meet the needs of the community.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Qualifications in waste/environmental management or a related field, or substantial experience in the sector.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in a similar position.
  • Local government experience is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of procedural and operational methods in waste services, including compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Advanced skills in project and contract management, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • A proactive mindset with excellent communication and organisational skills.
