The Opportunity

We are looking for a full-time Fabrication Superintendent based in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

This pivotal role will involve being hands on and is accountable for overseeing the fabrication and engineering functions, while driving strategic growth and managing operational excellence across multiple divisions.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Overseeing fabrication and engineering functions to ensure operational efficiency
• Leading a team of employees and fostering a positive workplace culture
• Identifying new business opportunities and developing strategic client relationships
• Overseeing project costing, estimating, and feasibility evaluations
• Interpreting engineering drawings to ensure accuracy and quality of work
• Driving sales targets and meeting key performance indicators (KPIs)
• Supervising and managing structural steel and plate work fabrication projects
• Ensuring compliance with quality control and assurance systems
• Coordinating construction site activities, including steel erection and client handover
• Prioritising competing projects and maintaining organisational focus
• Engaging with diverse clients such as EPC companies, engineering firms, and government departments
• Contributing hands-on support to workshop teams when needed
• Training and mentoring junior team members

What you'll bring

To qualify, you will need extensive experience as a Fabricator in the areas of medium-heavy structural steel fabrication including tanks. Previous experience in the heavy engineering and structural fabrication industry, including managing teams will also be essential. You will have progressed your learning from Certificate III to Certificate IV and ideally successfully studied to Diploma level in Structural Engineering. Additionally, Business Management and Project Management studies will be well regarded. 

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

• Expert understanding of structural steel and plate work fabrication
• Hands-on experience in interpreting engineering drawings
• Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise in a fast-paced environment
• Proficiency in project costing and estimating principles
• Knowledge of construction sites, including steel erection and client handover
• Previous international work experience
