Tenterfield Shire Council is looking for a skilled and motivated Plant Mechanic to join our Fleet Team in the heart of Tenterfield, NSW.
In this hands-on role, you’ll be working on a diverse range of plant and equipment – from diagnostics and repairs to preventative maintenance and technical support. If you thrive on problem-solving and want to fast-track your career into a senior role like Fleet Coordinator or Service Advisor, this is the opportunity for you.

Fine-Tune Our Fleet – What You’ll Be Doing
- Service and repair a variety of plant and equipment.
- Diagnose and fix mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults.
- Perform welding, fabrication, and technical repairs.
- Carry out preventative maintenance to reduce downtime.
- Mentor and support apprentices.
- Ensure all work meets safety and regulatory standards.
- Maintain accurate service records.
- Collaborate with drivers and operators to keep equipment running smoothly.
Built to Last – Are You the Right Fit?
We’re after a skilled mechanic with a strong background in plant and vehicle maintenance. If you have a relevant mechanical trade qualification and experience in diagnostics and repairs, we want to hear from you.
We’d also love it if you have:
- Experience with welding and fabrication (or willingness to learn)
- Basic computer skills
- Knowledge of safety standards for water, sewer, and waste
- White Card (Construction Induction)
- Current Class C driver’s licence
Bonus skills:
- Experience operating earthmoving equipment
- Crane and forklift certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Confined Spaces and First Aid accreditation
- NSW Class LR, MR, HR, or HC driver’s licence (truck operation experience preferred)
- RMS Inspection Certification
