Communication with Purpose

We’re looking for a full-time Communications Officer to join our team in Tenterfield, NSW.

Reporting to the General Manager, you’ll lead and deliver Council’s communications and engagement strategies. You’ll play a key role in keeping our community informed, promoting Council initiatives, and ensuring our voice is clear, confident, and aligned with our values.

Your core responsibilities will include:
• Planning and implementing Council-wide communications and marketing strategies
• Developing internal communication frameworks and media messaging
• Responding to media enquiries and preparing press releases, speeches, and editorial content
• Managing Council’s social media, website, and digital communication platforms
• Producing newsletters, community updates, and corporate publications
• Coordinating media support and promotion for Council events and initiatives
• Supporting economic development messaging and public relations projects
• Providing timely and accurate information during emergency situations
• Liaising with internal teams and external stakeholders to align communications
• Tracking media activity and reporting on relevant issues impacting Council
• Enhancing Council’s public image and ensuring consistent branding

Who We’re Looking For – A Voice for Community Connection

You’ll bring a Degree or Diploma in Communications, Marketing, or a related field, along with 3–5 years’ experience in communications, media, or marketing — ideally within government or community-focused sectors.

To succeed, you’ll also bring:
• Proven experience in communications strategy and content development
• High-level written and verbal communication skills
• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building ability
• Proficiency with digital tools, including Microsoft Office, desktop publishing software, and social media platforms
• Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple priorities
• A valid Class C Driver’s Licence
• Australian work rights

We’d also love if you bring:
• Experience in local government or public sector settings
• Understanding of community engagement practices
• Familiarity with web content management systems
• Skills in media relations, event coordination, and corporate publications
• The ability to stay calm, constructive, and solution-focused under pressure
