Your Opportunity in Fleet Leadership

Tenterfield Shire Council is now seeking a full-time Fleet Coordinator, based in Tenterfield, NSW.

Reporting to the Manager Infrastructure Delivery, you will lead a team of four and take responsibility for the acquisition, maintenance, and effective utilisation of Council’s fleet and equipment.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating the planning, acquisition, maintenance, and disposal of Council’s fleet
  • Managing light and heavy vehicles, plant, and equipment programs
  • Delivering the Plant Maintenance Program and Fleet Asset Management Plan
  • Ensuring fleet compliance with all regulatory and safety standards
  • Overseeing recalls, warranty repairs, and arranging temporary replacement vehicles
  • Supervising and developing the Fleet team, including performance reviews and guidance
  • Preparing tender documentation and managing procurement processes
  • Developing fleet replacement programs and cost-effective maintenance strategies
  • Analysing fleet performance data and preparing forecasts and financial reports
  • Collaborating with Council sections to support fleet compliance and operational improvement
  • Driving continuous improvement in fleet operations, safety, and financial performance

Is This You?

To qualify, you will need qualifications in a mechanical trade, along with qualifications or significant experience in a similar role. Prior experience in fleet management or a related industry is also considered essential. Also, must hold a Construction Induction (White) Card. Previous local government experience will be well regarded though is not considered essential. 

This is a fantastic opportunity for a mechanic or tradesperson ready to step into a senior leadership and supervisory role.

  • Experience working in Local Government
  • Certificate IV in Front Line Management/Supervision
  • Authorised Inspection Scheme (AIS) accreditation (support available)
  • Heavy Rigid (HR) Driver’s Licence
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Chemcert Accreditation
  • Understanding of safety standards relating to water, sewer, and waste environments
  • Physical ability for manual handling, safety drills, and rescues

Additional Requirements

The successful candidate must:

  • Hold a Class C Australian Driver’s Licence (manual preferred)
  • Be willing to obtain a National Criminal History Record Check prior to commencement
  • Undertake a pre-employment medical examination (at Council expense)
