Deliver Roads the Community Can Rely On
Tenterfield Shire Council is seeking a full-time Leading Hand (Roads – Sealed) to join our Infrastructure team based in Tenterfield, NSW.
In this hands-on supervisory role, you will lead a small team responsible for sealed road maintenance and rehabilitation works across the Shire. This includes overseeing pothole patching operations using specialised equipment, coordinating daily works programs, and ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Supervising sealed roads maintenance and rehabilitation activities
- Leading and mentoring crew members and contractors
- Implementing and monitoring safe work practices, including toolbox talks, risk assessments and SWMS
- Overseeing traffic control setups and ensuring compliance with approved Traffic Control Plans
- Allocating daily tasks in line with works programs and reporting on progress
- Operating and overseeing plant including tipper trucks, patchmobile, loaders, and associated equipment
- Maintaining quality standards to ensure durability and longevity of repairs
- Ensuring accurate completion of documentation, daily running sheets and job costing

To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- Certificate IV in Civil Construction Operations (or equivalent)
- Demonstrated supervisory experience in civil construction or road maintenance environments
- Strong knowledge of WHS practices and the ability to implement safe systems of work
- Current Traffic Controller and Traffic Management qualifications
- NSW Class HR Driver’s Licence
- Proven ability to operate and oversee relevant civil plant and equipment
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships
Highly regarded:
- Certificate IV in Frontline Management or Diploma in Civil Construction
- First Aid Certificate
- Extensive experience in sealed road maintenance programs
