Be the Backbone of Council Operations

Tenterfield Shire Council seeks a highly motivated professional with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to deliver excellent customer service, procurement, and stock control functions for our organisation.

This is a 12-month term contract with the opportunity for extension, subject to organisational requirements. Council is committed to developing its people, and future opportunities may arise across the organisation.

Reporting to the Procurement Officer, this role ensures the safe and secure operation of Council’s Store while providing timely supply services across all departments including Works, Fleet, Water & Sewer, Waste, and Parks & Gardens.

Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ordering, receiving, issuing, and maintaining stock including PPE, chemicals, plant parts, signage, and fuel
  • Maintaining accurate inventory records and stock control systems
  • Processing purchase orders and goods receivable in line with procurement policies
  • Monitoring depot fuel, diesel and liquid emulsion usage
  • Managing Safety Data Sheets and hazardous goods registers
  • Coordinating supplier relationships and ensuring compliant purchasing practices
  • Providing responsive and professional customer service to internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintaining a clean, organised, and compliant stores environment

You Understand Stores. You Understand Systems.

You will possess:

  • Certificate III/IV in Procurement, Logistics, Warehousing, Business (or equivalent) or minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar stores role
  • Proven knowledge of stores management and procurement processes
  • Well-developed ICT skills including MS Office applications
  • Accuracy and efficiency in data entry and inventory systems
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • NSW Class C Driver’s Licence
  • Forklift Licence (or willingness to obtain)
  • Ability to safely undertake manual handling tasks

As our ideal candidate, you are organised, reliable, and confident dealing with both depot crews and suppliers. You understand compliance requirements and take pride in maintaining efficient systems that keep operations running smoothly.
