This Is Not a Traditional In House Role

Some legal roles are structured and procedural.

This isn’t one of them.

Legal is embedded in the business. Leaders expect clear, pragmatic advice that moves decisions forward while managing risk appropriately.

As the organisation grows the legal function is becoming more central to the business.

This role adds capability by bringing in a lawyer who can operate confidently and independently, working closely with leaders across the organisation and providing commercially grounded advice that keeps things moving.

Partnering with the General Counsel & The Work

You will work closely with an experienced General Counsel whose leadership style is pragmatic, commercial and solutions focused.

The expectation is not lengthy legal analysis, but clear, practical guidance that helps the business make informed decisions. Executives engage directly with legal, often informally and in real time, creating an environment built on trust, autonomy and accountability.

This is a broad commercial role supporting multiple business units across the group. You will work across matters such as:

• Major contract negotiations and tenders
• Construction and infrastructure agreements
• Dispute resolution and debt recovery
• Corporate governance and compliance
• Property portfolio matters
• Corporate transactions and acquisitions

External law firms are used selectively, with internal legal expected to own the work wherever possible.

You will engage regularly with operational leaders, general managers and senior executives across the organisation.

Who This Role Will Suit

This opportunity will suit a lawyer who brings:

• Admission as an Australian legal practitioner
• Around 5+ years PQE, with flexibility for exceptional candidates
• Experience in private practice or a broad commercial in house role
• Strong general commercial capability
• Confidence managing matters independently
• A pragmatic, solutions focused approach to legal advice

Exposure to sectors such as construction, infrastructure, manufacturing or property is beneficial, though commercial judgement and mindset matter most.
