Nganampa Health Council is an Aboriginal owned and controlled health organisation operating on the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands in the far north west of South Australia. Across this area, Nganampa Health operates eight clinics, a 13 bed aged care respite facility and assorted health related programs including aged care, sexual health, environmental health, health worker training, dental, women's health, male health, children's health and mental health.
The health service has a sustained national reputation for best practice clinical services, leading edge collaborative program research and development and for the collection of outcome data as a basis for ongoing evaluation. Nganampa Health's successes have been recognised by the National Health and Hospital Reform Commission, the Productivity Commission, Prime Ministers and many academic journals. The organisation's clinics are AGPAL Accredited, modern facilities staffed by a multidisciplinary team comprising Anangu Health Workers and Nurses, supported by Program Coordinators and experienced Medical Officers to provide clinical care to each local community.
This position is based at the Tjilpiku Pampaku Ngura Aged Care Facility, a 13 bed aged care facility located at Pukatja. The facility is well managed, well designed and well equipped and located in an extremely scenic location, surrounded by the Musgrave Ranges. A team consisting of the facility manager, a cook and personal carers provide support to the residents of the facility.

Nganampa Health Council has an exciting opportunity for an Aged Care Nurse to join their dedicated team based at Pukatja, in South Australia's remote north.
Working under the direction of the Medical Director and Aged Care Program Manager, this is a highly varied role based in the Tjilpi Pampaku Ngura Aged Care Facility, in which your focus will be to provide direct respite care and long term care to frail aged people from across the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands.
Some of your more specific responsibilities will be to:
To be considered for this position, you must be a currently Registered Nurse with high level clinical skills and experience in, or a demonstrated understanding of, the ageing process and caring for aged clients. Empathy with elderly clients is an absolute must, while postgraduate qualifications in Palliative Care or another relevant field will be an advantage.
Advanced clinical skills and extensive experience in aged care in positions where you have to conduct clinical assessments and interventions is essential.
Nganampa Health Council is seeking an adaptable and flexible individual who can display the initiative, discretion and cultural sensitivity needed to support and drive the organisation's objectives and values. You must be able to communicate and participate effectively within a cross-cultural, multi-disciplinary health team.
Candidates who are open to change, accepting of Aboriginal people, comfortable living in a remote environment and who are willing to learn the ways of the people will be best suited to this position. The ability to work under Aboriginal management and control will be highly regarded. No two days will be the same and as a result, highly resourceful candidates will thrive here.
An understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal health, as well as the principles of Primary Health Care and relevant legislation will be pivotal to your success in this position.
The successful candidate must be willing to undergo a National Police Clearance. A manual driver's licence is required for this position, and a 2 day 4WD training course is provided in your orientation week.
