Pintupi Homelands Health Service Aboriginal Corporation (PHHSAC) is an expanding and well equipped AGPAL accredited primary healthcare facility located in Kintore. Servicing a close knit community of 450, the health service provides clinical services with a dedicated staff of nurses, health promotion officers, Aboriginal Health Workers, a doctor and support staff.

Kintore is located in the Northern Territory, some 530 kilometres west of Alice Springs. This beautiful and remote part of Outback Australia is a popular destination for 4WD and trekking enthusiasts. About the Opportunity
Pintupi Homelands Health Service Aboriginal Corporation (PHHSAC) has an exciting opportunity for a Team Leader (School Nutrition Program) to join their dedicated team in Kintore.
Reporting to the Clinical Services Coordinator, you will be responsible for facilitating the School Nutrition Program (SNP) at the Walungurru Primary School and Yirrara College to assist the Kintore community to improve the health and hygiene of school aged children.
Some of your more specific responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to):
- Supervising the daily operations of the kitchen including food preparation and ordering, maintaining inventory records, planning menus and overseeing cleaning processes;
- Providing professional leadership and direction to kitchen personnel with regard to SNP standards and procedures;
- Preparing employee rosters, calling back-up employees and completing end-of-shift paperwork;
- Reporting any problems or accidents occurring in the kitchen/cafeteria;
- Providing training and assistance for community members;
- Role-modelling and providing ongoing education of healthy lifestyle habits; and
- Incorporating literacy and numeracy skills into programs to assist Indigenous people to obtain training in vocational education.
PHHSAC is seeking a highly organised individual who can display the initiative, discretion and cultural sensitivity needed to support and drive the School Nutrition Program and the organisations' objectives and values. Your background in working with people of a non-English speaking background and ability to communicate and participate effectively within a cross-cultural, multi-disciplinary health team is essential.
The successful candidate will have experience working with Indigenous people or in a small/remote community with a professional background in either health and nutrition, commercial kitchens, hospitality (or related service industry) and/or within HAAC or other community/health program. You will also have knowledge of current food safety standards and their implementation as well as stock control, food preparation and ordering/budgeting skills.
In this role you will require highly developed organisation and time management skills with an ability to develop and promote a fun, yet productive work environment. Experience living or working in an Indigenous community will be highly regarded, as will a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or similar experience in an education/ training setting.
For someone dedicated to providing health education and empowering people to take ownership of their own health and wellbeing, this is a refreshing hands-on role, supported by collaboration with the health promotion team, health service staff and the wider community.
The successful candidate must be willing to undergo an AFP Police Check and hold a NT Working With Children Check (Ochre Card). A manual Northern Territory driver's licence or the ability to obtain one is required for this position and although not essential, it would be advantageous to have experience with 4WD vehicles.
