About the Organisation

Operating for over 50 years, CatholicCare Canberra & Goulburn is a non-government Not For Profit organisation that aims to provide an equitable society where the rights, dignity and worth of all individuals are recognised and promoted.

They work to empower individuals, couples and families through high quality and accessible services along with promoting healthy inclusive communities through relationships, partnerships and collaboration.

The Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn stretches from the far south cost of NSW and includes the ACT in its entirety. Within this region CatholicCare delivers services and advocacy for those less advantages and assists people to participate in the community.

In the future, CatholicCare hopes to improve their community links and partnerships as well as expanding their service delivery to targeted NSW communities. This will include refining and documenting their strategic planning process.

About the Opportunity

CatholicCare Canberra & Goulburn has an exciting opportunity for a permanent Part Time Disability Support Worker to join their team based in Canberra.

You'll be joining the team working as part of the Dorothy Sales Cottages program, which provides high level care and support to 8 adults living with Acquired Brain Injury in a 24 hour accommodation setting. Your hours will start as three night shifts per week (Sunday, Monday & Tuesday) 9.30pm - 7.30am.

In this role, your focus will be on providing a range of individualised support services within a Person Centred framework to meet each resident's specific needs. Each day's activities will vary based on the needs of each resident, but as a guide, your duties may involve:

  • Personal care;
  • Domestic duties;
  • Meal preparation;
  • Administration duties; and
  • Advocating for the resident.

CatholicCare Canberra & Goulburn is looking for a supportive and empathetic team player with relevant qualifications, and experience in working with individuals with complex care needs resulting from Acquired Brain Injury. You will be a self-motivated team player who can work independently and demonstrates the initiative to adapt to different situations.

You'll need to be prepared to be flexible with your tasks, and won't mind getting your hands dirty with domestic duties. You'll be a confident and enthusiastic individual who understands the importance of good time management and is able to effectively handle high pressure situations. All applicants must hold a current driver's licence and be willing to undertake a criminal history check.

Most importantly, you'll need to display a passion for working with and caring for people with a disability.

No two shifts will be the same in this role, and you'll enjoy a mix of real hands-on activities and quieter hours as residents sleep.

Working Part Time, you'll be able to achieve your perfect work/life balance, and your career will benefit as well, as CatholicCare provides opportunities for ongoing study.

In return for your hard work and dedication, you will enjoy attractive remuneration circa $36,036 - $37,177 (pro rata), plus super and penalty rates where appropriate.

Working within a truly rewarding organisation, you'll also be rewarded with a fantastic range of benefits including early access to Long Service Leave (able to be taken after 5 years EFT) and paid birthday leave!

You will be joining a family-orientated and fun environment which has an open door management policy.
