About the Opportunity

Psychiatric Rehabilitation Australia (PRA) is seeking two part time Mental Health Workers to join the growing Caboolture / Redcliffe team.

Working approximately 18 hours per week, you'll be involved in a transitional recovery initiative that supports adults with a mental illness with moderate-high support needs to live in the community. You'll be assisting adults with a mental illness leaving hospital to successfully move into the community, expand their personal vision for their future, confidence, skills and networks for community participation, with some outreach to consumers as they transition into their own accommodation and support networks.

The services provided to each person will vary, depending on their individual recovery plan, but your daily duties may include supporting consumers with:

  • Developing skills for managing home and finances;
  • Exploring mainstream community opportunities including sport, leisure, fitness, recreation, education and employment;
  • Developing skills that encourage people to participate in community activities;
  • Mentoring and peer support;
  • Developing skills for the self management of mental and general health; and
  • Joint care planning with the mental health team, private psychiatrist, psychologist or general practitioner.

The successful applicants will have a strong commitment to consumer driven recovery and psychosocial rehabilitation, and will preferably hold relevant qualifications in the Human Services or Behavioural Sciences field.

You'll have the ability to solve problems as they arise, manage your time to achieve targets, and regularly maintain consumer files. As you will be frequently engaging with consumers, family members, colleagues and service providers, you will need to be a caring and understanding individual, with strong communication and organisational skills, and the ability to work in challenging situations. You will have experience in motivating consumers and assisting people to achieve their personal goals.

Suitable candidates must hold a current driver's licence and have access to a fully comprehensively-insured motor vehicle. Working 18 hours per week, you'll need the flexibility to work a range of shifts, including occasional evenings or weekends.

An enthusiasm for working with people with a mental illness, and a genuine desire to help others and improve the community is essential!

About the Benefits

You will be rewarded with an attractive salary package (commensurate with experience and qualifications) plus super.
