About the Organisation
The Spinifex Health Service is an expanding Aboriginal Community-Controlled Health Service located in the Tjuntjuntjara Community on the Spinifex Lands, 680km north-east of Kalgoorlie in the Great Victoria Desert region of Western Australia.
Servicing a close knit community of around 180 people, the Health Service is managed by the Paupiyala Tjarutja Aboriginal Corporation, a non-profit community organisation with responsibility for the administration and management of Tjuntjuntjara.
The organisation operates a comprehensive primary health service with a team of skilled health professionals including a Medical Director, visiting specialists, remote area nurses and Aboriginal Health Workers. The Tjuntjuntjara Clinic supports regular monthly visits by our Medical Director/GP, visiting specialists and fortnightly GP clinics provided by the Royal Flying Doctor Service. With a range of health programs and clinical services designed to meet local needs, the Spinifex Health Service presents a golden opportunity to make a difference in one of the most remote and cohesive communities in the country.
About Tjuntjuntjara
The people of Tjuntjuntjara are known today as the Spinifex People, the traditional custodians of 55,000 square kms of Spinifex Native Title Determination area. The community is situated 680km north-east of Kalgoorlie within the Shire of Menzies, approximately 10 hours’ drive from Kalgoorlie. It has a resident population of around 180 people, including the world renowned Spinifex artists. Cultural events often attract several hundred visitors.
Since establishing Tjuntjuntjara within their traditional homelands in 1989, the community has steadily grown and developed into a stable and important focus for the traditional cultural cycles of Western Desert life. People from throughout the region with traditional attachment to the area have returned to live at Tjuntjuntjara. Despite the community’s isolation and remoteness, the Spinifex People's determination to live in their country and provide strong local governance and stability for a highly dedicated workforce makes Tjuntjuntjara a unique place to live.

About the Opportunity
The Spinifex Health Service has an exciting opportunities for experienced Remote Area Nurses to join their team in Tjuntjuntjara, Western Australia.
Flexible employment arrangements are available including working on a FIFO, job share, full time, temporary or casual basis.
Reporting to the Clinic and Programs Manager, you'll be responsible for the delivery of day-to-day primary health care services and the delivery of special primary health care programs.
More specifically, your day-to-day responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):
- Managing chronic diseases;
- Managing acute presentations
- Providing basic antenatal and post-natal care (with the Midwife's support);
- Assisting with the delivery of the Women's Health, Child & Family Health, Men's Health and Youth Health programs, along with other population health programs;
- Conducting community based preventative health checks;
- Collecting and analysing program performance outcomes; and
- Supporting and advising Aboriginal Health Workers on the job.
Spinifex Health Service is looking for an experienced Remote Area Nurse who understands the value and importance of relationships in delivering best-practice primary health care.
You will need to have previous remote area experience and be registered with AHPRA and have a current Advanced Life Support or Remote Emergency Care Certification.
You'll be computer literate with highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate sensitively in a cross-cultural environment and the ability deliver training and education to a multidisciplinary team. In addition, you'll be solution focused with an understanding of public health and community development principles.
Importantly, you'll also be flexible in your approach with a demonstrated commitment to evidence based practice.
Relevant post-graduate qualifications and experience with clinical accreditation processes and experience with Communicare will be highly regarded.
A current manual driver's licence, Working with Children check, National Police Clearance, the willingness to work outside of normal hours and travel to remote areas via 4WD are essential for this role.
