About the Opportunity
Are you an experienced Marine Engineer who enjoys working with people, and wants to work each day in one of the world's most stunning locations?
Harbour City Ferries has an exciting opportunity for a process-driven Marine Engineer (Inner Harbour) to join their professional Circular Quay team in Sydney Harbour.
Reporting to the Service Manager and relevant Master, you will ensure Passenger Services vessels are maintained to a required statutory level of operating and safety requirements. This will include assisting in ensuring that vessels are available and reliable in order to maintain maximum on-time running to meet the needs of customers.
You'll act as second in command on board the ferry, with the opportunity to step into a seniority position when required. Given the high number of commuters and tourists who travel across the world-famous Sydney Harbour each day, this is a role for someone with the natural ability to patiently listen to and care for engines and people equally.
More specifically, some of your key duties will include:
- Operating and maintaining vessel machinery safely and efficiently, including routine maintenance and service work;
- Assisting in establishing and maintaining a quality management system;
- Following start up, shut down and hand over procedures;
- Planning the testing of ferry systems and equipment;
- Coordinating system tests and collating analysis reports;
- Preparing pre incident reports and monitoring ferry systems; and
- Assisting external authorities with survey inspections and ensuring problems are rectified to achieve certification.
This role calls for a proactive team player with the initiative and knowledge to find fault and rectify problems on ferries, as well as take preventative maintenance precautions on vessels. The successful candidate will have significant experience as a Marine Engineer and will hold a minimum of Certificate in Competency in Marine Engineering Driver Grade II (as issued by NSW Maritime).
You will need experience working with an integrated safety management system in relation to the ISM code along with knowledge of electrical machinery and circuitry as it applies to commercial vessels. Along with excellent communication and staff management skills, you'll require a commitment to quality customer service for dealing with internal and external customers.
To be successful you will need a demonstrated understanding of relevant legislation and statutory government regulations, along with a willingness to complete the AQF Certificate IV - Assessment in Workplace Training. Demonstrated time management and planning skills are essential, as is the ability to solve complex marine engineering problems in emergency situations. A current First Aid Certificate and the ability to swim at least 50 metres is also required.
About the Benefits
