Why was the Tyro Traineeship Program created?
Frank Sobrio, the founder and creator of the Tyro Traineeship Program (TTP) said that whilst current hot topics include the environment, climate change and carbon tax, there is another serious issue facing Australia which is equally important, requiring urgent attention. Frank said the issue of skills shortages will not go away until we create an innovative way to lift the profile of all trades, in particular the hairdressing industry, and look at ways to improve the current structure to help young people to fulfil their passion and set them on a successful career path – hence the creation of the Tyro Traineeship Program.
The TTP provides people who may be disadvantaged in some way financially with the opportunity to achieve their dream.
What is the Tyro Traineeship Program?
The Tyro Traineeship Program offers selected candidates a 15 month full time hairdressing scholarship (valued at $15,000) (Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm) for a Certificate III in Hairdressing, which is a nationally recognised qualification. The course is set to start in mid-late January, and the cost covers all training for the duration of the course.
Before being offered a scholarship under the TTP, candidates are required to pass certain selection criteria and must demonstrate they are passionate, willing to learn and serious about becoming a professional hairdresser. Trainees are expected to pay a $100 deposit, then $50 per fortnight, for a total cost of $700, which will give them their hairdressing equipment kit and necessary textbooks. The course is Centrelink approved, and payments may be auto deducted via Centrelink's Centrepay.
Once the course commences, trainees attend a Registered Training Organisation 5 days per week. After the appropriate skills are developed, trainees then spend 2 days per week at a RTO training and the remaining 3 days engaging in work experience at a salon selected by the TTP. During these 3 salon days, trainees are provided with countless opportunities to bridge the skills learned at school into real life scenarios. Continuous support from the educators and TTP staff is provided during this time, including one on one training and individual needs addressed in small class situations.
The TTP Head Office is strategically located at the cross section of Burwood and Glenferrie Roads, Hawthorn and is conveniently situated next to Glenferrie train station and easily accessible by Melbourne trams and main road thoroughfares.
On top of the mandatory hairdressing skills required, the trainee is mentored and managed from beginning to end to ensure they all reach a level of excellence and a successful career that they can be proud of.
TTP only provides a certain amount of hairdressing scholarships throughout the year, so start your hairdressing career and apply now!
