Established in 1978, GOC Care was the first Ethno specific welfare agency in Queensland, responding to the migrant needs of the Greek Community. About the Opportunity

GOC Care has an exciting opportunity for a Team Leader to join the Philia House Disability Respite Care Program, working 35 hours per week.

GOC Care's Disability Service (Philia House) is a Disability Services-funded Residential Respite facility offering block respite to children and young adults for periods of up to approximately four weeks per year.

Reporting to the Disability Program Manager, this roll will see you responsible for the day-to-day coordination of the Disability Respite Program, as well as supervising a team of disability support workers.

Your duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Providing leadership, supervision and management to the team of support workers, acting as a positive role model;
  • Participating in the recruitment and training of support workers;
  • Developing monthly rosters;
  • Providing client support and developing positive and strong relationships with their families and carers; and
  • Providing on-call cover as required.

To be successful in this role, you will have a Certificate III or above in Disability Studies or a related discipline, supported by demonstrated personal care skills within the disability sector. Team leadership and management experience, in addition to roster development and planning skills are essential in this role. Additionally, you'll have the ability to coach and develop teams and individuals, bring out their professional best. Previous experience in a highly industrially regulated work environment will be highly regarded.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills are vital in this role, as you will be interacting with the young people who are GOC Care's clients, their families or carers, other service providers, as well as representatives from Government Departments such as Disability Services. Additionally, you will need to be able to build constructive relationships with key stakeholders, as well as to negotiate and communicate with influence.

A commitment to continually improving established practices, as well as an ability to work independently with minimal supervision is essential. You'll demonstrate self awareness as well as a willingness and initiative to continue to learn and grow with the role, and will use your advanced problem solving and conflict management skills to ensure that the programs initiatives are implemented in a smooth and efficient manner. Your outcome focused attitude, combined with your caring and empathetic nature, and open minded and flexible outlook will be the keys to your success, as will your ability to work within and contribute to the values of Philia House.

Please note that this role does require the successful applicant to hold an unrestricted current drivers licence, as well a a current Blue Card.
