Monteath & Powys is a development consultancy with a significant planning department in the Hunter Region established more than 60 years ago, which has also provided planning and surveying services for nearly 30 years. The organisation currently employs around 55 people across a range of disciplines including surveying, planning, project management and engineering design. 

About the Opportunity

Monteath & Powys has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Town Planner to join their growing team in Newcastle in a full time or part time capacity working a minimum 30 hours per week.

Working as part of the Planning team, you will be responsible for the delivery of planning advice and assisting clients in gaining consent for their developments.

More specifically, some of your duties will include:

  • Managing jobs from inception to completion;
  • Managing a budget based on fee proposal;
  • Investigating issues relevant to particular developments;
  • Preparing documentation for submission; and
  • Meeting with and working through issues with both State and Local Government bodies.

To be successful for this role, you will be a qualified planner with extensive experience across a wide range of areas in planning and/or a related field. You'll hold a current membership of PIA and a CPP. A recognised and experienced professional in a specialist area such as social assessment, economic assessment, bushfire, traffic etc, you'll utilise your experience in a wide range of planning matters to excel in the role.

You'll have a thorough knowledge of planning legislation and relevant processes and will apply your sound understanding of legislation and the approvals process to ensure that projects are completed in a timely manner.

An excellent communicator, you'll use your well practiced negotiation skills to build and maintain strategic relationships, ensuring mutual outcomes are met. You'll be analytical and thorough in your approach to work, with a keen eye for detail, and the ability to be innovative and show initiative in providing solutions to problems.

It is essential that the successful candidate hold a current drivers licence.
