About the Organisation

The Gold Coast Medicare Local (GCML) is an independent, not for profit, primary health care organisation. It aims to improve the health and wellbeing of the Gold Coast community by working in partnership with health and community services such as general practice, allied health, mental health, aged care and youth services.

Medicare Locals have been established across Australia to coordinate and integrate health and community services and to identify local needs and create local strategies in response.

GCML receives funding primarily, but not exclusively, from the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing.

About the Opportunity

Gold Coast Medicare Local (GCML) has an exciting opportunity for a part time (0.5 FTE) Primary Health Care Support Officer to join their team, based in Burleigh Waters, Gold Coast.

In this vital role, you'll be responsible for assisting in the provision of implementing and supporting practice support programs to Primary Health Care.

More specifically, your duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Identifying and responding to local needs with regard to practice support and quality improvements;
  • Providing Help Desk advice regarding medical software, reminder/recall systems, data collection, emerging health and Medicare information;
  • Facilitating quality improvement activities with and between primary health care providers; and
  • Improving the capacity of primary health care providers to deliver quality health services.

To be successful, you'll have significant experience working in a General Practice or Primary Health Care setting. You will also have demonstrated knowledge of, or participation in, Continuous Quality Improvement activities, specifically those relating to immunisation, chronic disease management, primary health care provision and eHealth. In addition, you will have the ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders to identify the Primary Health Care needs of the Gold Coast Community.

Importantly, you'll also have a demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Australia's Health Care System, particularly areas that relate to Primary Health Care Service Provision, or the ability to quickly acquire such knowledge.

Gold Coast Medicare Local is looking for a candidate with excellent communication/interpersonal skills.  Additionally, you'll be highly organised with exceptional time management skills and a strong attention to detail.

Strong skills in the Microsoft Office suite is essential, and the ability to use General Practice clinical software as well as data extraction tools such as Pen Computer Systems Clinical Audit Tool or Canning Data Extraction Tool will be highly regarded. Ideally, you'll possess strong data entry skills and will be able to develop skills in order to utilise a variety of custom built databases (ACT Sage/Chilli).
