About the Organisation

State Sports Centres Trust is a statutory authority which governs the Melbourne Sports Hub's four venues; Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre (MSAC), State Netball Hockey Centre (SNHC), Lakeside Stadium and the MSAC Institute of Training, a specialist training institute for the sport and recreation industry.

Melbourne Sports Hub is home to a diverse range of programs and hosts events such as national swimming events as well as high profile events like the Commonwealth Games, World Hockey Championships and the World Swimming Championships.

About the Opportunity

The State Sports Centres Trust (SSCT) has an exciting opportunity for a General Manager - Membership, Marketing & Communications to join their team based at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre in Albert Park, Victoria.

Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, you will be responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction for Health and Wellness, Retail, Catering, Membership Services, Business Development, Marketing, PR, Communications and Digital services, as well as being responsible for the management and commercial performance of these business units.

In addition, you will be a member of the CEO's Executive Management Team and as such will be required to make a positive corporate contribution to the sustainability, growth and development of the SSCT's business at MSAC, SNHC, MIT & Lakeside Stadium, as well as provide entrepreneurial input and innovation.

More specifically, your duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Providing strategic and operational contributions to EMG meetings;
  • Developing and overseeing the management and implementation of the Membership & Business Development business units annual business plans;
  • Assisting and supporting the CEO in leading and managing cultural change strategies;
  • Providing strategic management for the staffing and further development of the Melbourne Sports Hub Membership Services to provide a centralised operation for membership services;
  • Increasing membership to 30,000 by July 2014;
  • Developing and monitoring the performance of the SSCT Marketing Plan annually;
  • Strategically analysing and managing return on investment measures and systems for activities related to SSCT Marketing, PR and Communications;
  • Delivering innovative services that meet members needs through technology and enhanced membership intelligence;
  • Managing and growing the business within agreed financial and human resources parameters; and
  • Assisting the CEO on any special projects that the Trust may undertake.

To be successful in this role, you will possess tertiary qualifications in business management, marketing or a related discipline, supported by superior leadership and management skills. Additionally, you''ll have demonstrated entrepreneurial and business development skills, as well as proven commercial acumen and business management skills.

You'll be a proven leader who can manage and motivate a team with ease and influence, with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to negotiate. Your ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and be resourceful and self-reliant will be the keys to your success. Your experience delivering outcomes on time will be constantly drawn upon as you organise, plan and prioritise between operation and strategic issues.

This role will have a great focus on driving membership and gaining a greater geographical market reach, therefore a demonstrated sales and marketing ability will be essential to this role. In addition, you must possess the ability to recognise and step into an under performing area to help turn it around, as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

You must also have a thorough understanding of technology and social media.

This is an exciting and hands on opportunity that will see you working across multiple departments and venues and playing a key role in exciting national and international sporting events that attract high levels of media coverage.
