About the Opportunity

Methanex is seeking two highly motivated Turnaround Planning Coordinators to be part of their team in Medicine Hat, AB.

In this dynamic and challenging role, you will organize plant turnaround tasks, and supply Turnaround Team members with detailed and sequenced job plans for shutdown work. You will also work with the Turnaround & Projects Scheduling Supervisor and Turnaround Lead to coordinate all aspects of the planned work, reconcile job information once complete, and maintain information integrity. 

This is a temporary, project-specific position to support the facility’s upcoming Turnaround scheduled for May/June 2015.  The position will commence as soon as possible with an anticipated duration through July 2015, and a possibility of short-term extension based on the developing schedule of the Turnaround. 

Reporting to the Turnaround & Projects Scheduling Supervisor, you will:

  • Collaborate in the development of a total shutdown plan by organizing specific job plans, ensuring the necessary materials, tools and equipment, as well as human resources are in place to satisfy the budget and schedule;
  • Effectively plan and monitor turnaround activities through the development and continuous review of planning and estimating systems, methods and procedures;
  • Utilize effective planning and scheduling strategies to reduce labour, material and equipment costs for shutdown work;
  • Facilitate materials identification and requisitioning by requesting quotes and ordering materials, equipment and services;
  • Assist the Turnaround Team in coordinating and overseeing the work of contractors;
  • Activate and execute turnaround plans, and continually monitor progress to ensure activities are being completed as planned;
  • Support the site’s Responsible Care ethic and create job plans that place priority on both safety and environmental considerations; and
  • Actively participate as a member of the site's Turnaround Assessment Group.

To qualify for this role, you will need the following:

  • A post-secondary technical diploma and/or Journeyperson trade certification in a related discipline (preferably pipefitting or welding);
  • 10 years of experience in a petrochemical or oil and gas setting, and
  • 5 years of experience in planning and coordination, including turnaround planning experience.

You will do well in the role if you are knowledgeable of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), and experience with Maximo is an asset. To do well in the role, you will need strong knowledge of safety legislation, standards and best practices, as well as have a familiarity with Alberta Boilers Safety Association (ABSA) regulations.

We are searching for a highly organized professional with superior planning and estimating skills. You will be skilled at producing detailed procedures and reports, and previous experience collaborating with contractors will put you at an advantage.
