About High Prairie School Division
High Prairie School Division No. 48 is prominently situated in the heart of northwestern Alberta’s picturesque Mighty Peace Country, widely recognized by residents and tourists alike as one of the province’s best kept secrets.
It’s an enviable distinction largely attributed to the region’s friendly, welcoming atmosphere and unsurpassed natural scenic beauty which offers a wealth of outdoor recreational opportunities throughout the year, ranging from camping and hiking to fishing, snowmobiling, hunting and skiing.

The geographical setting of HPSD spans an area of more than 372 kilometers, stretching west-to-east and includes the communities of Falher and Donnelly as well as High Prairie, Kinuso, Joussard and Slave Lake.
High Prairie School Division No. 48 provides quality education and learning opportunities to more than 3,200 students in Kindergarten to Grade-12. The division employs more than 360 staff at 13 schools (three of which offer outreach education programs). Four schools are located in Slave Lake and High Prairie with additional educational facilities situated in Kinuso, Joussard, Donnelly and Falher.
The division’s main office is centrally located in High Prairie and boasts three separate departments (transportation, maintenance, and technology), all of which provide state-of-the-art services.
About Slave Lake, AB
The Town of Slave Lake has over 6,700 residents, and is located 2.5 hours northwest of Edmonton, at the southeastern tip of Lesser Slave Lake. Characterized by many as “The Jewel of the North,” Slave Lake is a progressive, dynamic community. About the Opportunity
High Prairie School Division No.48 is currently seeking 2 dedicated Wellness Coaches to serve its schools in Slave Lake, Alberta.
Within this truly rewarding position you will work as part of a team of professionals to support children and youth by engaging them in activities that support their overall health.
Specifically, you will:
- Work within the school to promote health and wellness for students;
- Implement universal programming to enhance mental health;
- Assist students to develop an increased sense of well-being;
- Provide individual and group counselling;
- Liaise with appropriate community agencies; and
- Support the development of a sustainable culture of positive well-being.
The ideal candidates will have a diploma in Counselling, Social Work or Child and Youth Care, coupled with experience working with children and youth.
High Prairie School Division No.48 is looking for qualified candidates who can work independently and as part of a team and with a diverse group of stakeholders.
You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a valid driver's license.
Experience and understanding of FNMI culture is an asset.
