Awabakal Newcastle Aboriginal Cooperative Limited (ANACL) is an established Aboriginal community controlled not-for-profit organisation, that aims to deliver primary health care services, advocacy and social and emotional support to Aboriginal people and their families. Since 1977, ANACL has been committed to catering to the health and social needs of the Aboriginal community across the Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Port Stephens and lower Hunter Valley regions of New South Wales (NSW).
One of the key services provided by ANACL is the Awabakal Aboriginal Primary Health Care Centre (AAPHCC), which specialises in meeting the health and wellbeing needs of the local Aboriginal people. The AAPHCC is poised to become one of the leading Aboriginal primary health care facilities in NSW, by creating a centre of excellence that delivers the very best in healthcare to the community.
About the Opportunity
The AAPHCC has exciting opportunities for dedicated General Practitioners to join their multifunctional team on a full-time, part-time or independent contractor basis, within their recently refurbished Primary Health Care Clinic located in the DWS area of Hamilton in Newcastle, NSW.
Reporting to the Clinic Manager, the main aim of this pivotal role is to provide primary health care services to the local Indigenous community, in consultation with a network of excellent medical support staff.
While working sociable hours, some of your specific responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to):
- Providing quality, integrated and best practice primary health care to patients;
- Ensuring patient referrals are made to other appropriate medical service providers as required;

- Participating in the clinical governance of the Centre.
To be successful in this role, you will have AHPRA registration, along with FPAGCP or FACRRM registration (or an agreed equivalent). You will also have previous experience working as a General Practitioner.
Although not essential, experience working in an Aboriginal Medical Service is highly desirable, as is knowledge of 715 Health Assessments and 721 GP Management plan.
You will require an understanding of, and commitment to, the philosophy, aims and objectives of primary health care. Your strong sense of cultural awareness, health trends and issues will aid you in understanding and working with the local Aboriginal community.
The AAPHCC is seeking candidates who are able to function both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, working in a diverse health environment. Your excellent interpersonal skills will help you in building effective relationships with stakeholders.
A current Driver's Licence, Police History Check and Working with Children clearance are essential.
