About the Organisation

The Epilepsy Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of people living with epilepsy, through education, advocacy, support services and research. They work to raise awareness of epilepsy in organisations and the broader community to reduce the stigma of the condition.

The organisation is led by an experienced Chief Executive Officer with support from the Executive Management team as well as a dedicated staff of approximately 35 FTE, along with many hundreds of volunteers who work across all functions and help to provide services. Formed by a group of concerned parents in 1964 to provide support and information to all Victorians affected by epilepsy, the organisation has undergone extensive development including relocation to new offices.

Today, Epilepsy Foundation continues to work towards the aims of enhancing the quality of life for people living with epilepsy and improving community awareness and understanding.

About the Opportunities

The Epilepsy Foundation has two exciting opportunities available for dedicated Epilepsy Educators and Trainers (Nursing and non-Nursing qualified) to join the organisation in their Surrey Hills office. These roles offer flexible hours on a full time or part time basis.

Reporting to the Education and Training Manager, the successful candidates will be responsible for delivering epilepsy education and training, including emergency medication training (Registered Nurse only) to a variety of audiences across Victoria.

These are rewarding, hands-on positions that will allow you to make a real difference to the quality of life of people living with this condition and their families.

More specifically duties for these positions will include (but not be limited to):

  • Providing a fully integrated education ad training service to a range of audiences;
  • Delivering services to budget and provide an integral link between all people involved in the client case;
  • Participating in the design, development and delivery of education programs;
  • Supporting local and regional education and training activities; and
  • Meeting the needs of people with epilepsy, as well as education and training audiences.

To be successful in these roles, it is essential you hold a Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment. You'll have experience in education and training delivery, as well as workplace education and training. Your expertise in people management, development and group facilitation will ensure your success in these roles, as will your excellent interpersonal skills.

You will be an excellent written and verbal communicator and use this to assist in dealings with internal and external stakeholders. You will need computer literacy and proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite. While not essential, knowledge about epilepsy would be an advantage.

As a Nurse qualified Epilepsy Educator and Trainer, you will also be a Registered Nurse (Div 1) with proven post registration experience. Ideally, you'll also have relevant qualifications in neurology/epilepsy or community/disability studies.

As a non-Nurse qualified Epilepsy Educator and Trainer, you will also have tertiary qualifications and experience in a relevant discipline, such as teaching, disability, aged care, social work, psychology, occupational therapy, community development, health promotion or social planning.

A current Driver's Licence will be required, as will a satisfactory Police Check for Disability Care and a Working with Children Check. You will be required to have the ability to work flexible hours, that typically would include 1-2 afternoons per fortnight finishing after 5pm, in addition to regional travel which may include overnight stays typically once a month.
