About the Opportunity

Currently, Startec is seeking a driven and results-oriented individual for the role of Construction Manager to join their team in Calgary, AB.  

As a key member of the Services Group, you will be responsible for the profitable operations of new construction and field project activity for the company. 

Overseeing the internal management of construction jobs, your duties and responsibilities will include: 

  • Coordinating purchasing for execution of work and approving supplier invoicing for the job;
  • Reviewing the budget against actual for each job and analyzing for any significant variances from budget and project costing;
  • Performing site inspections to measure progress on project and ensure compliance with specifications;
  • Preparing initial construction drawings;
  • Selecting and awarding work to subcontractors;
  • Ensuring projects are executed in adherence to the Startec Project Playbook;
  • Developing as-built drawings;
  • Resolving quality control issues;
  • Providing assistance with service issues and support to field technicians;
  • Scheduling manpower in collaboration with Regional Managers/Coordinators;
  • Developing Bills of Material and directing progress billings for projects; and
  • Ensuring work is being performed in adherence to safety requirements. 

Sales: 

  • Assisting in indentifying which projects to pursue; and
  • Preparing labour estimates for projects.

Administrative Management:

  • Supervising projects (1-25 staff, depending on project);
  • Performing evaluations and disciplinary actions; and
  • Resolving conflict.

Other: 

  • Developing and maintaining knowledge of refrigeration and oil and gas systems
  • Tracking warranty issues and recommending necessary repairs; and
  • Developing and maintaining knowledge of required computer software. 

As our ideal candidate, you have an appetite for achieving results and are compelled to drive yourself and others in order to exceed objectives and meet deadlines. It is also important that you are comfortable working independently in a decision-making role. 

To be successful in this role you will need to have a minimum of 5 years of related experience in industrial refrigeration and/or gas compression and 5 years of supervisory or project management experience. A confident leader, you are skilled in providing direction for others with a focus on taking initiative and influencing priorities. 

Lastly, you will do well in this role if you are able to make sound decisions in the face of risk and uncertainty.
