About the Opportunities
Smart City Vocational College now has two exciting opportunities for enthusiastic Diploma of Horticulture Trainers & Assessors to join their teams based in Hobart and Rockhampton. These are both part-time roles, two days a week.
Reporting to the Team Leaders, these positions will be responsible for teaching the Diploma of Horticulture to students and managing all facets of this course.
Some of your day-to-day responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to):
- Supporting and mentoring students;
- Conducting student assessments;
- Facilitating courses face-to-face with various organisations;
- Managing and updating training and assessment materials;
- Adhering to strict compliance for student files and assessments;
- Promoting courses within the community; and
- Networking with industry individuals.
In order to deliver this Diploma to others, it is essential you hold a minimum of this qualification yourself. Along with this, Smart City Vocational College requires you to have a current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE 40110) or equivalent qualifications. You must also have demonstrated experience in delivering VET training and hold a Diploma of Horticulture or higher VET qualification.
A horticultural background will be key to this role. Although only general horticulture knowledge is essential, experience in food production and hydroponics would be a bonus, as these are the main course areas. You will demonstrate industry currency and have solid knowledge and understanding of ASQA compliance and regulations. Complete understanding of the importance of compliance is essential to your success.

Your innovation, creativity and positive leadership style will see you inspiring and empowering these individuals to achieve their goals. As an energetic and enthusiastic leader, you will be resourceful in delivering different teaching techniques and will aim to make courses exciting and interactive in order to engage with, and retain, students.
As this position requires working with training materials and managing the course, you will need strong computer skills, high organisational skills and the ability to manage your workload efficiently.
