About the Opportunity
Are you looking to progress your career with a progressive local government in North Queensland?
Carpentaria Shire Council has an exciting opportunity for a Manager, Water & Wastewater to join their dedicated team based in Normanton, QLD.
In this varied role, you'll be primarily responsible for providing direction, leadership and general management to the Shire’s Water, Sewerage, Solid Waste, and Aerodrome infrastructure. You will be ensuring that all utility services are delivered effectively and efficiently within reasonable Council and Customer expectations and within regulatory requirements.
Some of your day-to-day duties will include, but may not be limited to:
- Facilitating the development of strategies, policies and planning in collaboration with the Council other Council departments;
- Overseeing, reviewing, and implementing structural changes to ensure modern, effective, and efficient services are delivered;
- Providing leadership and management to departmental staff;
- Overseeing the planning and delivery of Council’s capital improvement program, waste reform and levy initiatives;
- Developing and compiling budget submissions, and administering and monitoring ongoing costs; and
- Managing the regulatory compliance and council policies associated with the licensing, and ownership of the Normanton and Karumba Aerodromes.
To be considered for this role you will be able to demonstrate significant experience working in a similar position. You'll have a thorough understanding of water and sewer infrastructure and operations, as well as waste collection, disposal, recycling and waste minimisation methods and processes, and relevant legislative requirements applicable to these activities. A sound knowledge of, and experience in working with, SCADA and Telemetry systems is also essential for this role.
Ideally, you'll possess a sound understanding of the legislative requirements relating to Aerodromes/Aviation including Aerodrome Emergency Procedures and Aviation Security. This is not essential however and full training and support will be provided.
As a highly organised individual, with excellent time management skills, you'll be able to effectively manage a range of projects from inception to delivery. Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills will allow you to manage a diverse workforce, and to deal effectively and diplomatically with complaints and enquiries from the general public.
A current class 'C' driver's licence and WH&S Construction White Card are required before commencing employment with Carpentaria Shire Council.
