About the Opportunity
Centacare NQ has an excellent opportunity for a full time Counsellor to join their team in Mount Isa, QLD as a part of their Remote Area Integrated Family Support Service (RAIFFS) which is delivered to Cloncurry with outreach to Richmond.
In this highly rewarding role, you will be responsible for providing counselling using a range of strategies through the programs/services offered by Centacare NQ. In addition the senior counsellor role makes a significant contribution to the program management and leadership through support and guidance of staff and involvement in complex case matters.
Some of your key responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
- Providing counselling to families/children/individuals using approaches that are flexible and appropriate;
- Contributing to the planning and provision of community education and support;
- Conducting assessments of clients and making appropriate referrals as necessary;
- Representing and promoting Centacare NQ in the wider community; and
- Other duties as directed by the line manager.
Centacare NQ is seeking candidates who hold a tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Community Services or Behavioural Sciences, as well as experience in working with families in a crisis setting. You will need practical knowledge of household and child case work/management approaches and theoretical frameworks for practice. Additionally, you will need knowledge and understanding of family functioning in a broad range of cultural and social contexts, with knowledge of the impact of abuse and dysfunction within families. Ideally you will also have experience in leading and managing small teams, however this is not essential for this role.
The successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with a broad based range of service providers and culturally diverse clientele, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people. Your skills in written and verbal communication, including your ability to write clear and concise reports for a range of audiences, will be highly developed, and you will have the ability to work effectively both autonomously and in a team environment.
The ideal applicants will have strong organisational, time management and administrative skills, coupled with the ability to lead effectively. The demonstrated ability to undertake risk assessments relating to family functioning and risk within the household is also essential. Knowledge, skills and experience in one or more of group work, community education, training and indigenous services is highly desirable.
You will be required to hold a current C class driver's licence, and be willing to obtain a Positive Notice for Child Related Employment (Blue Card and a Yellow Card exemption).

An attractive salary package $64,261 - $74,219 is on offer, dependent on experience and qualifications, as well as a fantastic range of benefits including:

- Remote allowance of $5000 per annum
