About the Organisation

The Balonne Shire Council services a population of just under 5,000 residents, and is located around 500 kms from Brisbane on the New South Wales border. The region is supported by the towns of Dirranbandi, Bollon, Thallon, Mungindi, Hebel, Nidigully and Boolba, with the town of St. George acting as the shire’s business centre.

The region is surrounded with gorgeous rivers, all of which are hot spots for Yellow belly and Murray Cod fishing. The Balonne Shire also plays host to a number of fantastic annual events, including fishing competitions, golf carnivals, motorbike endurance rallies, country shows and rodeos and wool, craft and flower shows.

About the Opportunity

The Balonne Shire Council has an exciting opportunity for a Community and Business Development Officer to join their dynamic team. Reporting to the Director of Community and Environmental Sustainability, you will be responsible for economic, cultural and community development and event coordination.

More specifically, your duties may include;

  • Developing and implementing strategies, policies and programs to strengthen the sustainability of the shire’s community and business;
  • Undertaking economic and community research and analysis;
  • Writing submissions and grants for funding relating to community and business development; and,
  • Assisting with the continuing development of cultural change and continuous improvement within the workforce.

The ideal candidate will have tertiary qualifications in business, community or related fields alongside at least 3 years’ experience in similar positions. Additionally, you will have knowledge and experience in contemporary community or business development practices.

Analytical and problem-solving skills are paramount to this role, as well as a proven ability to use initiative within the workplace. You will need to be able to investigate issues, collect and analyse data and make sound recommendations on actions to be taken.

Your ability to work autonomously will allow you the flexibility required to effectively carry out your role. Your organisational skills and effective time management will ensure you meet demanding deadlines whilst delivering consistent quality in the outcomes you produce.
