About the Opportunity

Do you have a passion for fine wines and want to join the leading and award winning fine wine distributor in the industry?

Samuel Smith & Son has an exciting opportunity for a Retail and On Premise Area Manager (Wine Distribution) to join their team overseeing the Wollongong area & surrounds. 

Reporting to the State Sales Manager, you'll be responsible for the continued growth and profitability of your sales area through the management of an existing client portfolio and growth of key accounts. You will achieve this through developing effective business relationships with key decision makers throughout your area (mix of retail and on premise). You will be looking after key accounts for both Samuel Smith & Son, and Negociants Australia. 

More specifically, your day-to-day duties will include (but not be limited to):

  • Prospecting and developing new business relationships with key stakeholders;
  • Managing an existing customer base;
  • Using your commercial acumen to drive area growth and profitability;
  • Conducting consumer tasting and staff education;
  • Territory and call cycle planning;
  • Brand and product promotion including conducting trade and consumer tastings, display merchandising and handling stock orders and enquiries; and
  • Identifying and implementing promotional opportunities and managing trade activation.

Samuel Smith & Son is looking for a team player with demonstrated previous experience and success in managing a large portfolio. A solid understanding of the domestic and imported wine industry is critical, paired with prior experience within wine/spirits/hospitality. 

The ability to thoroughly comprehend customers' businesses is important and demonstrated excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills are essential for your success in this position. Maintaining your key accounts, you'll be required to employ a strategic and "big picture" approach as you grow your accounts with a long term view in mind.

Customer service always comes first for you, and your ability to build strong relationships at the trade level as well as developing a strong sales call cycle and sales plan for your accounts will see you succeed in this exciting opportunity.

Intermediate computer literacy is highly desirable as is the experience with, or the ability to quickly learn how to use, CRM software, Salesforce in particular.
