Life in Colac

Colac and the Colac Otway Shire are where children still kick the footy in the street, where you'll always find a car park nearby, where the shopkeeper remembers how you like your coffee and where leading manufacturers and producers ensure people seeking jobs in rural Victoria can find rewarding work.

In Colac, the houses and the backyards are big, but the mortgage is small, especially compared with city prices. Throughout Colac and district you’ll find some of the most affordable housing in regional Victoria. The commute to work is just five minutes, unless of course you choose to live along the coast, where the commute is an hour – not through gridlock traffic – but through the fresh air of the Otways, the ultimate destination for a tree change in Victoria.

Colac has great schools, vibrant events, a diverse arts and culture scene, sports galore, awesome beaches and, above all, Colac is a family-friendly community. Improved road and rail connections mean Geelong and Melbourne are just a stone’s throw away, as are Ballarat and Warrnambool, and Colac’s transport connections are improving daily.

Whether you prefer city, country or coastal living, Colac Otway has it all. There’s a reason our part of the world is luring newcomers and Colac Otway is so popular at regional living expos. Much of Victoria is on the move to this gorgeous part of the world.

The role of Sales and Service Supervisor

Herd Improvement Co-operative has a great opportunity for a Sales and Service Supervisor to join the Colac branch.

You will supervise a team of Sales Representatives to promote and sell HICO's goods and services to meet the needs of dairy farmer customers. You will also supervise a team of technical staff to perform farm services and Artificial Insemination (AI) work on farms to meet customer requirements. The Colac team is made up of eight people across sales / service.

In addition to supervising others, this role will also give you the opportunity to undertake your own sales activity.

Some of your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Conduct and attend field staff meetings and appropriate training courses
  • Develop annual targets, budgets and annual performance standards for your representatives with the Sales and Marketing Manager
  • Ensure Sales Representatives maintain accurate customer records in the CRM system
  • Promote sales of all HICO goods and services to dairy farmers
  • Conduct farm visits, attend field days and farmer focus meetings
  • Liaise with the Senior Stock Controller and the Stock Control and Sales Support Officer to organise and manage the timely delivery of product
  • Organise and deliver a comprehensive Artificial Insemination (AI) service in your area in conjunction with AI technicians
  • Ensure farm services in your area are co-ordinated and managed in a timely and accurate manner, following up with customers to ensure full satisfaction with the services provided

HICO is seeking a candidate with strong sales and customer service skills.

Dairy industry experience would be advantageous but is not essential. The successful candidate will, however, require technical acumen given HICO's products.

This is an autonomous role, so you'll need to demonstrate the ability to work unsupervised and implement change management. You will also require strong leadership and organisational skills.

Given the close-knit environment within the Colac team, well-developed interpersonal skills are important in this position.

Finally, a current unencumbered drivers licence is required.

The Benefits on Offer

This position offers a competitive salary package, vehicle, phone and laptop.

The successful candidate will join a welcoming group, many of whom have been part of the team for a number of years. There's a true 'family vibe' within the team.

HICO promotes a healthy work-life balance

HICO team members are given a chance to develop their skills through ongoing on- and off-the-job training, and this senior role provides an avenue for further career development and advancement.

Feedback from a current team member

Since joining HICO I have found the company and the comradery within, a pleasant surprise, finding my passion for service shared. When making the move from New Zealand to Australia, it was daunting, HICO have me made me both welcomed and accepted as part of a great team.

My position enables me to have the best of both worlds, working in the office and learning their procedures, planning solutions for clients and being able to get out on the road to implement these solutions. As an added bonus I get the opportunity to see the benefits of our labour first hand.

In this fast paced and changing world of bovine genetics, the company has stayed at the forefront implementing technology to keep up and updating old ways to new to challenge the competition and stay ahead within the industry. With branches across Victoria, I am able to see the different practices across the state and gather information which benefits all customers I deal with.

HICO has derived from a number of amalgamations giving a vast number of knowledge, resources and information, with this there is power to share with our customers, to achieve the best possible outcome.

If you are looking for something within agriculture and need excitement and variation from day to day, this is the place to be. All the upcoming knowledge and information within the industry across the world, HICO is in touch and I look forward to growing with them to achieve the best of best outcomes.
