Kurrajong Waratah provides support, training and opportunities to people with an intellectual disability and their families through their targeted services.

The organisation commenced operations in 1957 with the aim of meeting the needs of people with a disability and their families, and continues today to provide support to over 1100 children and adults across the Murrumbidgee area. About the Opportunity

Kurrajong Waratah has an opportunity for a Speech Pathologist to join their organisation based in Wagga Wagga, on a full-time, 12-month maternity leave contract.

As a Speech Pathologist, you’ll be responsible for working with families to enhance their children’s ability to communicate and interact with others in their environment, through providing comprehensive and holistic therapy and treatment.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Assessing client communication and feeding skills development in order to set relevant, appropriate, and specific therapy goals for client treatment;
  • Providing therapy using a variety of service delivery options including individual appointments, transdisciplinary sessions, communication groups, home programs, parent training, and input into early learning groups;
  • Conducting family-centred practice that empowers families to become their child’s best early intervention workers and help them achieve their own goals;
  • Maintaining documentation and correspondence including reports, progress notes, and referral letters; and
  • Reporting as required.

Kurrajong Waratah is seeking a tertiary qualified speech pathologist who has, or is eligible for, registration with an appropriate professional body such as AHPRA. Ideally you’ll have a few years’ work experience, however recent graduates will also be considered for this position.

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills will see you liaising with a variety of stakeholders including health professionals, families, and children, in a professional and informative manner. An engaging, friendly, and welcoming approach will ensure you’re able to build strong relationships with your clients as you provide holistic, comprehensive speech pathology services.

Demonstrated knowledge or the motivation to gain knowledge of Primary Health care principles in regional and rural areas will be valuable to this position. You’ll need to have, or be eligible to obtain and Working with Children Check, and must be willing to undergo a national Police check prior to employment.

As you'll be providing weekly outreach services, a current, unencumbered driver’s licence is a key requirement of this position.
