About the Organisation

WAYSS is a community based organisation which was formed as a result of the amalgamation of several small incorporated associations. It is WAYSS core purpose to assist individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to improve their life circumstances by providing access to stable, affordable and safe accommodation. WAYSS exists to serve those in the community who are experiencing difficulties by offering support and advocacy to alleviate homelessness and re-establish connections and links in the community.

Many of WAYSS services have been in operation since the late 1970's. Its membership consists of individuals who live or work in the outer south eastern region of Melbourne and are committed to the provision of services to those at risk of homelessness. About the Southern Women’s Integrated Support Service (SWISS)

Southern Women’s Integrated Support Service (SWISS) provides a service to women and women with children who are homeless or at risk of homelessness due to current or immediate family violence.

Operating from a secure, purpose-built residential facility offering independent accommodation for women and children, SWISS is staffed with workers 24-hours a day who provide information, referrals, and support within a case management framework.

About the Opportunity

WAYSS has an opportunity for an experienced Residential Case Worker to join their dedicated team at SWISS based in the Southern Metro region of Victoria, on a full-time basis.

Working within a case management framework, this position provides a crisis response which includes the provision of information, advocacy, referrals and support to women and women in children living in, or escaping from, family violence.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing Family Violence Risk Assessment and Intake, and crisis referral and support to women and women with children escaping family violence who are homeless or at risk of homelessness;
  • Assessing immediate presenting needs of clients, including safety, housing and support requirements;
  • Providing intensive case management as required to support women and children;
  • Advocating on behalf of the client to both internal and external stakeholders;
  • Working alongside clients to help them attain long-term sustainable housing; and
  • Reporting and documentation as required.

The ideal candidate will hold relevant tertiary qualifications in social work, welfare or similar with a demonstrated understanding and experience working with social justice principles. You’ll have prior experience providing case management support to women and their children in a 24/7 residential setting, with a developed understanding of family/domestic violence and homelessness.

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively and sensitively with clients from a variety of backgrounds. You will work well under pressure, confident in working both autonomously and as part of a team. Strong computer literacy with a working knowledge of all Microsoft Office Suite programs is a requirement of this role.
