Oceania Gas is the exclusive distributor of BOC products such as industrial gases, welding equipment and safety supplies in the region. Oceania Gas plans to continue employment of all staff working in Samoa and Fiji businesses.

Its product range is:

  • Industrial gases including oxygen, acetylene, CO2 and nitrogen
  • Welding equipment including welders, torches, rods and wires
  • LPG and LPG appliances, including stoves and cookers (commercial and domestic)
  • LPG installations and servicing
  • Safety equipment and clothing
  • Fire Extinguishers and alarms - sales and service

About the Opportunity

Oceania Gas Ltd (OGL) currently has a rare opportunity for an experienced senior manager or executive to join the organisation as their new General Manager on a full time basis.

Based in Suva, you'll be responsible for leading the Fiji and Samoa businesses with a focus on safety, sales and cylinder filling/distribution operations and to contribute to the overall profit, business performance and growth of the Pacific Islands region. In addition to this you will be responsible for providing strategic vision and direction now and into the future of Oceania Gas Ltd. 

This position reports to the Managing Director of Oceania Gas Ltd.

In addition, your duties will include (but not be limited to):

  • Delivering the financial and non-financial targets of the sales area, including sustained improvement in sales revenue, margins, overheads, operating profit, market share and customer satisfaction;
  • Remaining accountable for achieving agreed working capital targets for stocks & debtors in the area;
  • Sustaining improvement in HSE performance and enhancement of the competitive position in the area;
  • Maintaining a continuous productivity improvement towards best practice benchmark levels in productivity, cost effectiveness and safety for sales force effectiveness, cylinder filling and distribution;
  • Creating product and service solutions, as well as market input to new product and application developments;
  • Sustaining and improving personnel management in regards to OHS, performance reviews, coaching and training; and
  • Effectively leading and managing change.

This role represents a rare opportunity for an experienced and strategic senior manager to take the reins of an leading global gas distributer during a period of growth and change.

To be considered, you will have extensive experience in a senior or executive-level management position involving the oversight of a multifaceted organisation. Any relevant tertiary qualifications will be held in high regard. The successful candidate will also have excellent change management skills, with the ability to smoothly and successfully guide large and complex organisations through periods of evolution, in line with plans. The candidate must also possess strong strategic and motivational leadership qualities with effective analytical and decision making skills.

OGL is seeking applications from excellent communicators who can look at the big picture while maintaining day to day operations at the highest level. You will have experience liaising with individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds and the capability to inspire, build and manage an effective and growing team.

Of course, high level people and operational management skills are key, including the ability to effectively manage OGL's financial and administrative requirements. You will be highly organised and results-focused, with the ability to critically analyse information to make sound business decisions.
