About Evolution Farming and life in the Macintyre Valley Region

Evolution Farming is a long standing, family owned cotton irrigation business located within the Macintyre Valley Region, near the QLD/NSW border.

With three properties located within close vicinity of each other in Goondiwindi, Talwood and Garah, it operates more than 4,000 hectares of irrigated cotton and is one of the largest private holdings in the region.

The Macintyre Valley Region is home to a small, yet vibrant rural community. It is host to a number of events that draw people into the region each year, including the Annual Picnic Races at Talwood and the Mungindi Agricultural Show. Goondiwindi, one of the larger hubs in the region, is located approximately one hour from Talwood and has a number of amenities such as grocery stores and doctors. A hospital is also located in the town of Mungindi, approximately 40 kilometres away and there is a primary school at Talwood, 35 kilometres away, with a school bus to the front gate of the property.

About the Opportunity

Evolution Farming now has an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Farm Manager to join their farm at Talwood, QLD on a full time basis. The largest of the three properties, the Talwood operation is split into approximately 3,500 ha of irrigation and 4,000 ha of dry land farming for wheat, chick peas and other winter cereals.

Reporting to the Farm Manager, you will be the 2IC of farming operations. You will collaborate with, and support the Farm Manager as required and take a leadership role in the day to day operations of the farm. This will include supervising the activities of 6-12 Farm Hands and Operators on site; ensuring all workplace health and safety requirements are met; and that you are delivering best practice cotton crop production at all times.

To be successful in this position you will have at least 2-3 years irrigated cotton and cotton production experience and a hands-on approach. As this is predominately a supervisory role, you will also need proven experience effectively managing a team.

As most farming is done on site and not done by contract, you will need to be mechanically minded in order to maintain farming equipment and machinery, including set-up and calibration. You will be operating machinery with GPS guidance, including tractors, cultivators, cotton pickers and headers, so experience with GPS (ideally Greenstar) is an advantage. You will also be operating and overseeing various earth moving machinery and trucks as required.

A forklift license, chemical users certificate and first aid certificate are all required on commencement of this role, however can be trained if you do not hold these qualifications already.

With great communication skills you’ll be confident dealing with on-site contractors such as Agronomists Dealer Mechanics and various other contractors as required, and be able to work closely with staff in order to provide guidance and support. You will be organised and collaborative in your approach as you work alongside the Farm Manager to get the best results.

Most importantly, you will be a hard worker, who can show initiative, work effectively within a small team and be willing and able to embrace the local community and lifestyle.

About the Benefits

For your hard work and dedication you will be rewarded with a competitive salary package circa $100,000 based on experience, including work ute, and phone allowance.

Evolution Farming is dedicated to their staff and their ongoing development.  Many of their team have worked their way up from entry level positions and have been with the company long term. Plus, as a privately owned and operated business, most operational decisions are made on site, so you don't have to worry about the daily frustrations that can arise within a corporate farm.

You will also be provided with free on-site accommodation with your choice of either a larger 3-4 bedroom home or smaller, self-contained accommodation depending on your requirements and if you relocating with family. All utilities are also paid for and included in this package and pets are also allowed pending sign off from the Farm Manager.

If you are looking for career development, a change of scenery, or just want to be appreciated for your dedication and hard work, this is the position for you!

Locals with the appropriate background are welcome to apply. For others this represents a great opportunity to move to a new region where you can experience a different side of Australia, and enjoy a stable, progressive and long term career!
