Established in the early 1970's, Sea Swift is now Australia’s largest privately owned shipping company with 8 depots, 30+ vessels and more than 400 employees strategically located throughout northern Australia.
Sea Swift has a long and successful history in far north Queensland and more recently northern Australia and supplies the crucial ‘last-mile access’ to communities and people that are hundreds of kilometres from main supply hubs, with transport limitations. It offers services across four key areas, namely:
- General Cargo (regular service freight);
- Project & Charter (tug & barge capability);
- Mothershipping (trawler fleet); and
- Cruise (in Qld)
About the Opportunity
Sea Swift now has an exciting opportunity for a Marine Manager to run their Queensland operations. This is a full-time position based out of the Cairns Head Office.
Reporting to the General Manager QLD - Marine and Shore, the Marine Manager has primary responsibility across 3 main areas:
- Quality and safety control for the Marine Division;
- Crew management and development (performance appraisals, recruitment etc); and
- General operations management.
To be successful in this position you will hold a Master Class 3 as well as experience driving vessels of between 25-80 metres.
As someone with a solid background in ship management, you will have a strong understanding of marine quality systems and experience in updating and working with quality systems in the marine industry.
With 10-12 direct reports, Sea Swift is looking for candidates who are hands-on and operationally-minded in their leadership style, with the ability to quickly gain the respect of the people on the ground and the confidence to make hard decisions and hold people accountable for their actions as needed.
