Due to exciting growth, Hilltops Council now has an exciting opportunity for a Building Surveyor to join Council's Sustainable Growth team on a full-time, 9 day fortnight basis.
Reporting to the Manager, Building Services, your primary responsibility will be to deliver high quality building assessments and certification services across Council's three service centres in Boorowa, Harden and Young.
Specific daily duties will include:
- Assessing and determining Class 1 and 10 development applications, complying development certificates and construction certificates in accordance with relevant legislation and accreditation capabilities;
- Conducting inspections of buildings and premises for component compliance, safety and building certificates subject to Accreditation level;
- Participating in meetings/consultations with relevant stakeholders including owner/builders, architects, engineers, and government agencies at pre and post DA stages;
- Maintaining Building Professionals Board Accreditation at minimum A3 Level Accreditation; and
- Project managing Council construction jobs on an ad-hoc basis as required.
The successful candidate will hold relevant tertiary qualifications and hold a minimum Level A3 NSW Building Professional Board Accreditation (or be eligible to obtain this if relocating from inter-state). Ideally, you will have previous Local Government experience in building surveying however this is not essential as long as you have a sound knowledge of relevant legislation, acts and regulations applicable to the effective provision of regulatory actions, investigation, compliance and public education.
Any experience gained in handling or assessing Heritage Impact Statements or administration of a Local Heritage Grants Program, as well as experience working with a Geographical Information System, will be highly regarded, but is not mandatory.
Importantly, as this role will involve the handling of formal legal reports, demonstrated high-level written and oral communication skills will be critical to your success. You must also have excellent interpersonal skills and a customer-centric approach to your work, ensuring customers needs and expectations are met at all times.

Working a 9-day fortnight of 35 hours per week, your hours will usually be flexible so you can take a 3-day weekend and make the most of your time in this beautiful region!
