About the Organisation

A division of New Britain Palm OilRamu Agri Industries Limited (RAIL) is one of Papua New Guinea's leading agricultural producers, with large-scale operations in sugar and beef and an expanding oil palm plantation. Throughout its 34,000 hectares, the organisation produces around 34,000 tonnes of sugar, 2.6 million litres of ethanol, 60,000 tonnes of palm oil, and operates the largest beef production operation in PNG. About the Ramu International Primary School

Ramu Agri Industries Limited owns and runs an international school in Morobe, PNG, named Ramu International Primary School (RIPS). The school currently has 130-140 students housed in air-conditioned classrooms. RIPS also has an extensive library and computer access in each classroom for the children to work with. With Australian expatriate teachers working with Papua New Guinean National teachers and assistants, the Australian (NSW) syllabus is taught from Prep to Grade 6 (expatriate children then go on to boarding school overseas, with education assistance granted by RAIL).

The RIPS school year runs from January to December and consists of four ten-week terms. The children have the opportunity to take part in many sporting activities including swimming, netball, soccer, golf, squash and tennis. 

The students at the school come from many cultural backgrounds and when the school celebrates PNG's Independence in September each year, the children dress in their own traditional costumes making for a colourful, fun and educational day.

About the Opportunity

Ramu International Primary School has an exciting opportunity for an expatriate Primary School Teacher to join the organisation. The incumbent will be responsible for delivering the Australian (NSW) curriculum to a high standard. You'll also ensure that all students are supervised in a safe learning environment that meets the approved curricula and mission of the school.

Inherent in the position are responsibilities for teaching, scheduling, NSW curriculum development and delivery, extracurricular activities, emergency procedures, and facility operations.

This position will ideally commence April / May 2018; however, this start date is negotiable for the right candidate and may vary depending on Work Permit approval time frames.

Some of the key duties of the role will be to:

  • Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and responsibility for behaviour;
  • Effectively deliver the NSW curriculum and enhance the skills and knowledge of students;
  • Take responsibility for the well-being of students;
  • Communicate with parents/guardians on students' progress; and
  • Keep the staff informed and seek ideas for the improvement of the school.

Applicants for the position must have at least three years current full-time experience as a Teacher in a primary school and have internationally recognised teaching qualifications. You'll need to have good social skills and be culturally sensitive and importantly, be able to build upon existing NSW curriculum structures and methodologies.

You'll be adaptable and able to engage children and parents from a wide range of backgrounds.
