About your new role

The City of Unley has an opportunity for a Landscape Architect to join their team on a full-time 5 year contract basis in Adelaide, SA.

Reporting to the Manager of Urban Planning, Design, and Traffic, you will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and presenting quality strategic public domain and urban design projects and proposals across the city with a collaborative and balanced approach.

Working with a dedicated design team, you will also engage with members of the community and residents to develop and implement appropriate urban design policies, strategies, and outcomes including parks, gardens, and streetscapes.

In addition, you will provide input, leadership, and design proposals related to movement and mobility, climate adaption, asset renewal, economic development, and city transformational proposals and projects. 

More specifically, some of your key duties will include (but will not be limited to:)

  • Undertaking strategic public realm research, planning, and evaluation;
  • Developing master plans for Council streetscapes, parks, and reserves;
  • Providing specialist landscape architecture and urban design advice to Council, management, staff, and the community;
  • Assisting with the development of the capital works program for the City's public realm, including open spaces and built form;
  • Researching current trends in landscape architecture and urban design, including planning design and management of the public realm; and
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with community groups, relevant organisations, and government agencies to support the delivery of design projects/initiatives.

To be successful in this role, you will hold a degree in Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, or equivalent and a membership with the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (or ability to obtain).

You will also need to have demonstrated experience using CAD software such as AutoCAD, Sketch Up (3D), or equivalent, and proficiency with Adobe Creative products such as InDesign.

One of the main challenges in this role is trying to incorporate your design projects and proposals to fit within an existing built space. You will need to be able to tackle this with a high-level of creativity, innovative problem solving, and excellent analytical skills. You will also display the ability to mediate and negotiate positive outcomes with a range of community and political stakeholders. 

The City of Unley is looking for an individual who has excellent written and verbal communication skills and exceptional organisational skills. You will be able to deliver projects within a specified timeframe and to budget.

Most importantly, you will be self-motivated, enjoy working with a dedicated team while being able to work with a degree of autonomy.
