About the Organisation

Malabam Health Board Aboriginal Corporation (MHBAC) is an incorporated community controlled Aboriginal organisation that provides primary health care services and programs to the Maningrida region. MHBAC provides funding to the Maningrida health clinic and the Mala’la Flexible Aged Care Centre, alongside providing the “GREAT” Youth Services program and the Social and Emotional Wellbeing program to the community.

MHBAC’s vision is to improve the health and well-being of their people in the Maningrida community and surrounding outstations.

About the Opportunity

MHBAC has a rewarding full-time opportunity for an experienced Senior Counsellor (Community Wellness) based in Maningrida, NT.

Reporting to the Manager (Wellness Centre), you will be responsible for providing assessment, intake, counselling, and case management to clients.

Some of your key responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Providing counselling to individuals, couples, and families;
  • Promoting the Wellness Centre service through regular inter-agency meetings;
  • Documenting case notes according to Wellness Centre guidelines;
  • Documenting various statistics for reporting purposes and providing this information to management and funders;
  • Assisting in meeting the KPI's outlined in the annual operational plan and the four-year strategic plan;
  • Upskilling and assisting in the professional development of community workers; and
  • Attending professional development activities relating to Community Wellness services.

About You

To be successful in this role, you must hold a degree in Counselling, Social Work, Psychology or equivalent. You will also have current registration with a relevant professional body and have experience working with culturally diverse clientele.

In addition, you will need to have a strong working knowledge of the case management model, the ability to develop community links, a demonstrated capacity to source funding, and excellent reporting skills. As such, it is critical that you possess exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills.

While not essential, candidates with a post-graduate qualification and previous experience living in a remote area will be held in high regard.

Most importantly, MHBAC is seeking a passionate individual who has a genuine interest in supporting and advocating for clients of a culturally diverse community. 

Please note: It is a requirement of this role that candidates possess an OCHRE Card, a current driver's licence and are willing to undergo a police check prior to employment with MHBAC.

About the Region

Maningrida is a coastal Aboriginal community in the heart of the Arnhem Land region, located about 520km east of Darwin.
