About the Opportunities

The Indigenous Perspectives Society has two exciting opportunities for both an Aboriginal Social Work Instructor and an Aboriginal Social Work Team Lead/Instructor to join our team in Victoria, BC. 

In both of these roles, you will develop, review, deliver and instruct training curriculum and material for IPS programs in accordance with clearly established policies and procedures. 

As the Aboriginal Social Work Instructor, you will report to the Aboriginal Social Work Team Lead/Instructor directly, and you will provide sound and expert advice on all aspects of curriculum development and delivery. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing instruction of training materials to adult learners and ensuring onsite facilitation and coordination of training events
  • Monitoring the delivery of training materials by contractors to ensure appropriateness and provides corrective direction when necessary
  • Assisting with logistical arrangements on-site for training events such as training facilities, equipment, resources, guest lecturers etc. ▪ Prepare and organize training m
  • Preparing and organizing training materials such as flip charts, overhead and handouts to ensure a smooth delivery of the training or workshop
  • Developing and implementing public education programs and materials as directed by the Team Lead
  • Participating in the evaluation of programs operated by the IPS
  • Assisting with the development, implementation, and revision of curriculum in keeping with changes in practice, legislation, regulation and competencies required to meet delegation requirements
  • Developing and distributing public relations materials which serve to promote the interests and activities of the IPS
  • Preparing and conducting presentations on the training project(s)
  • Representing the IPS on committees and task groups

In order to qualify for this role, you will have a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education, Child and Youth Care, or a related discipline plus 3 - 5 years of Guardianship and/or Child protection experience. You will also possess:

  • Demonstrated experience in adult education instruction
  • Demonstrated experience in research and analysis using various methods including databases, internet, library and university reference materials
  • Demonstrated experience in developing curriculum and public education and relations materials
  • A valid BC Drivers’ Licence
  • Experience in child welfare with a letter of delegation in child protection
  • Previous work experience in an Aboriginal Child & Family Service Agency or MCFD

As the Aboriginal Social Work Team Lead/Instructor, you will report directly to the Associate Director and provide sound and expert feedback on all aspects of curriculum development and delivery including promoting, delivering and scheduling training and ensuring instructors are in place to deliver training. Please note that this role will be based out of the IPS office as well as off-site locations.

In addition to the above, responsibilities will include:

  • Providing supervision, mentoring, coaching, and leadership directly to reporting staff and contractors
  • Executing Human Resource related initiatives, including setting performance objectives and developing work plans, prioritizing work, ensuring proper training and conducting performance appraisals
  • Preparing and organizing training materials such as flip charts, overhead and handouts to ensure a smooth delivery of the program
  • Coordinating training evaluation
  • Developing and implementing public education programs and materials as directed by the Associate Director
  • Participating in the evaluation of programs operated by the IPS
  • Assisting with the development, implementation, and revision of curriculum in keeping with changes in practice, legislation, regulation, and competencies required to meet delegation requirements
  • Developing and distributing public relations materials which serve to promote the interests and activities of the IPS

In order to qualify for this role, you will have a Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education, Child Services, or a related field and 5 - 8 years of Guardianship and/or Child protection experience. You will also possess:

  • Experience in adult education instruction
  • Progressive experience in Indigenous Child & Family Services
  • Experience with and possession of a full child protection delegation letter
  • Previous work experience in an Indigenous Child & Family Service Agency
  • A thorough knowledge of Indigenous Social Work, specifically in the area of child welfare, and knowledge of legislation, regulations and practice standards pertaining to Indigenous Child & Family Services
  • A valid BC Drivers’ Licence
  • Sound knowledge of Indigenous communities, cultures, traditions, and practices in BC
  • Proficiency with computer software including MS Office, Moodle, and PowerPoint

You will be a good fit for either role if you have a good understanding of Aboriginal Social Work specifically in the area of child welfare. Knowledge of adult education theory and practices and of legislation, regulations and practice standards pertaining to Aboriginal Child & Family Services is important. 

Above all, you must be able to develop and maintain relationships with co-workers and stakeholders and work with diverse groups. The ability to organize, prioritize and manage workloads is imperative, as is the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Please note you must have at least a Guardianship delegation, but ideally, a Child Protection delegation to be considered for either role.
